How to Create and Share an Apple Maps Guide

Do you collect detailed information about places to see, restaurants to eat, or check the recommendations of someone you plan to visit? With Apple Maps Guide, you can create your own custom travel guide, share it, and view guides created by other people.

You can share guides with friends and family, collaborate with others when planning a vacation, and even create a list of places you love to visit. While there are many apps to help you plan your trips, the convenience of built-in Apple Maps on iPhone is unrivaled.

The Apple Maps Guides feature is very useful if you want to see where destinations are related. You can find the optimal route, but creating a list of sights lacks this extra layer of visibility.

Creating an Apple Maps Guide

You can create any guidebook you want, such as “Top 10 Places to Visit While Traveling”, “My Favorite Vintage Stores” or even “Restaurants I Want to Visit”. There are so many options and it’s all at your fingertips to create!

Stage 1: Open your Maps app and swipe up on the bottom toolbar until you see the button New Guide. Click on it.

Step 2: Give your new list a name, and then Create. Now that our guide is ready, we can start adding our goals.

Stage 3: you hit once Create, you will be taken back to the front page of Apple Maps. Scroll to the bottom, where Guides are, and click your new guide. The Guide we created will be for Portland, Oregon.

Step 4: click button Add Place. You can search for places to visit by name or address. Click on the “+” symbol (circled in the picture) next to your destination to add it to your contacts.

Step 5: Keep adding destinations until you have all the places you want to visit. You can always go back to your contacts and add more to it. When you’re done, you can click on your contacts to select all your goals.

Each target will have a different symbol depending on the type of target it is in. For example, flowers are used for gardens and coffee shops have coffee cups.

This is very helpful if you want to see which places are around each other when planning your itinerary.

Edit Your Directory

Your guide is fully customizable; You can change the icon, name and delete destinations that no longer suit your needs.

Stage 1: Open your contacts and swipe up on your contacts’ name until it is maximized.

step 2: Click To organise button located in the lower left corner of the screen.

• Edit Icon: Click the camera button on your guide’s icon. This allows you to replace the photo with a different photo from your library as your guide.
• Edit Title: Click Edit Title text under your contacts’ name. You can edit the title’s name.
• Delete Destinations: There is an empty circle to the left of each target, click the targets you want to delete to select them. After selecting all the locations, click on it. Delete everything to remove them from your list

Share Your Guide

After spending a lot of time compiling and creating your guide, you can share it with your travel buddies, family and even the public.

Stage 1: Open your Apple Maps and find the guide you created and want to share.

Step 2: After opening your contacts, swipe up on the tab (we did this to look at all our added locations). Click the middle icon at the bottom of the screen.

Stage 3: Choose how you want to share your contacts. You can download the guide with AirDrop, use a messaging app, send via iMessage, and email.

Find Inspiration

If you’re in trouble and don’t have time to create your customs guide, or if you’re looking for inspiration, you can look at guides made by other people in that area.

Stage 1: Find the city you’ve discovered using Call feature.

Step 2: Swipe up in the menu and swipe down until you see it. Explore Guides button and click on it.

You can browse all the guides made in the region. Click on the guide that interests you.

Stage 3: Look at the guide you opened, if you see a destination you want to add to your guide, click the plus (+) sign on the right and add it to your guide.

A Guide for Everyone by You

Creating your own Apple Maps Guide is a great way to visually compile all your favorite destinations and places to visit on a map. You can share these guides with anyone you want and refer to other guides for inspiration. Apple Maps has many useful features, and using Guides can make planning your next adventure so much easier.
