How to Cancel iCloud Storage Plan Without iPhone

Managing your iCloud account from Apple mobile devices (iPhone and iPad) is extremely convenient. But what if you lose your iPhone or switch to a non-Apple smartphone? Then how do you cancel your iCloud subscription? This guide will show you how to quickly cancel an iCloud storage plan without iPhone.

Without an iPhone (or iPad), there are only two direct ways to cancel your iCloud storage subscription. Come on, let’s see.

Cancel iCloud Storage Plan Using Mac

Stage 1: Launch System Preferences and select the Apple ID.

Step 2: At the bottom of the Apple ID page, you’ll find the iCloud storage meter. Tap the Manage button.

This will open a new iCloud storage management window. Here you can change your iCloud settings, free up storage and change your storage plan.

Note: For macOS Mojave 10.14 or macOS High Sierra 10.13, go to System Preferences > iCloud > Manage.

Stage 3: Click the ‘Change Storage Plan’ button.

Step 4: on the page While viewing your current iCloud subscription and other storage plans, tap the Downgrade Options button in the lower left corner.

Step 5: You will be prompted to enter your Apple ID account password to view subscription options. Feed and tap the Manage button or press the Return key on your keyboard to continue.

Step 6: Select 5GB (Free) and press Done.

Note: You cannot cancel or downgrade the free 5GB storage allocated to each Apple ID account.

Cancel iCloud Storage Plan on Windows PC

You can use a Windows computer to cancel an active iCloud storage plan without an iPhone. To do this, you must have the official iCloud app installed on your Windows PC.

Launch the Microsoft Store app on your PC and search for iCloud. Alternatively, you can tap the button linked below.

Note: iCloud for Windows only supports computers running Windows 10 operating system (version 18362.145 or higher). So make sure your computer is up to date.

After setup, sign in to your Apple ID account and follow the steps below to cancel your iCloud storage plan.

Stage 1: On the application dashboard, tap the Storage button.

Step 2: Next, click the ‘Change Storage Plan’ button.

Stage 3: Select Downgrade Options.

Step 4: Enter your Apple ID password and click Manage to continue.

Step 5: In the Choose Downgrade section, select the 5GB Free storage plan and tap Done.

What Happens When You Cancel iCloud Storage Plan?

Continuity or Payback

First, you will still have access to the current plan until its expiration date. And if you don’t want to use the plan because you’ve accidentally subscribed or no longer want to use it, you can request a refund, provided you persuade a Customer Support representative in good faith.

It’s worth noting that Apple will only issue refunds for storage plans not used within 14 days. For example, if you subscribed to a plan on January 1, you are eligible for a refund provided you cancel the plan and request a refund on or before January 14. This means that Apple accepts cancellation made within 14 days of subscription. Billing and Storage

Whether you request a refund or not, your iCloud storage quota will be reduced to 5GB and Apple will stop billing your payment card linked to your Apple ID for the canceled storage plan.

Data Access

If the total amount of data accumulated in your iCloud prior to cancellation exceeded 5GB, you will no longer be able to access some data (photos, files, videos, etc.) when the plan expires. For context, if you have 20GB of data storage in your iCloud account, you can only access 5GB worth of data. Also, some services like backup and sync will stop working on all devices connected to iCloud account. Likewise, the Mail app/service will also stop working. Therefore, you cannot send or receive new emails from now on.

If you haven’t exceeded the 5GB quota assigned to the free storage plan, you have nothing to worry about. You can still access your data and other iCloud-dependent services without a paid plan.

Data Expiration and Deletion

What happens to idle (inaccessible) data in your iCloud account when you exceed the free 5GB storage quota and cancel your plan? Well, according to iCloud terms of use, Apple reserves the right to delete your iCloud data (settings, photos and videos, messages, etc.) after one hundred and eighty (180) days of inactivity. In this context, inactivity means not backing up new data to iCloud within the aforementioned period.

There’s no way to access the data in your iCloud after you cancel your paid plan – that is, if you’ve exceeded your free storage limit. Likewise, it is not possible to recover your data if Apple deletes it from their servers.
