Focus mode is one of the best additions of iOS 15 on iPhone. Apple has replaced the Do Not Disturb mode on the iPhone with Focus. In a classic Apple gesture, Focus mode works on all Apple operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. That’s not all. Users can automate the focus mode based on time, location, and the type of app you have open on iPhone. Read on to learn how to automatically enable Focus mode on iPhone.
Apple didn’t replace Do Not Disturb mode with Focus mode and didn’t call it a day. The function has been carefully designed to create custom Focus profiles and automate them for specific situations.
1. Use Time-based Focus Automation
The first option is time-based automation in Focus mode. This is most useful for those who enable/disable Focus mode at a given time.
Let’s say you want to activate the focus mode at a certain time in the morning and turn it off at a certain time in the evening. Follow the steps below to create the setup.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone.
Step 2: Go to the focus menu.
Stage 3: Select the Focus profile you want to automate.

Step 4: Tap on Add Program or Automation.
Step 5: Select Time from the menu below.

Step 6: Activate Schedule and select the timeframe for Focus mode. While you’re at it, also select weekdays.

In this guide, we set the time-based automation for the Write profile from 9am to 6am Monday through Saturday. So the Focus profile will automatically kick in at 9 am and expire at 6 pm.
2. Enable Position Based Focus Mode
If you want to enable or disable focus mode based on location, Apple has you covered. For example, you can enable the Work Focus profile when you arrive at the workplace and automatically deactivate it when you leave the workplace. Here’s how to set it up.
Stage 1: Open iPhone Settings and go to the Focus menu.
Step 2: Select your Focus of Work profile and tap on Add Program or Automation.

Stage 3: Select Location.
Step 4: Search or Enter Address from the top search bar.

Step 5: You can adjust the location radius using the slider below. Check out the live preview of the area on the small map below.
Step 6: Hit Done at the top and you’re ready to go.
Another use case would be during Running hours at the gym or garden. Set these location-based Focus profiles for your Gym or Running route and enjoy quiet hours.
3. Enable App-Driven Focus Mode
Do you want to enable Focus mode based on the app you have opened on iPhone? You can do this too. Follow the steps below.
Stage 1: Go to iPhone Settings and turn on Focus mode.
Step 2: Select a Focus profile you want to automate.

Stage 3: Tap on Automation from the Open Automatically menu.
Step 4: Tap on App and select the app from the list of installed apps menu.

Share Focus Mode Across Devices
Do you live entirely in the Apple ecosystem with various Apple hardware such as iPhone, iPad and Mac? Apple lets you enable Focus mode on a single device, and it’s enabled on all Apple devices running the same Apple account via iCloud.
You won’t want to be in a situation where you have Work Focus mode enabled on iPhone to be distracted by WhatsApp or Telegram message on Mac. You don’t need to enable Focus mode separately on Mac. With a little trick below, users can easily enable Focus mode from iPhone to Mac or iPad or vice versa.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone.
Step 2: Go to the focus menu.
Stage 3: Enable the Share Across Devices toggle.

Automatically turning on a Focus for this device will open it for your other devices as well.
Main Focus Mode on iPhone
When you set up automation on Focus on the iPhone, you need to take a second look at the menu of allowed notifications and calls. After all, you won’t want to miss an important app notification or a call from your family member. How do you plan to automate Focus on iPhone? Share your use cases in the comments section below.
