The first SMS was sent 30 years (and a few days) ago. To celebrate this, Google has published a blog post in honor of this technology and is taking the opportunity to announce the arrival of end-to-end encryption. But also, and above all, to support the advantages of its successor, the RCS. Of course, this text is not innocent and is actually one more reason for Apple to bother.
It’s now an old refrain between the two companies. Apple’s systematic refusal to forward its messages to RCS has always been the subject of ridicule, especially since the firm hasn’t improved its situation by still and always pouting about a potential Android version of iMessage. For Google, there’s no doubt: Apple’s app got stuck in the 1990s.
Google mocks Apple once again for rejecting RCS
“Today, all major carriers and mobile phone manufacturers, except Apple, have adopted RCS as a standard”writes Neena Budhiraja, product manager for Google Messages. “Apple refuses to adopt RCS and continues to rely on messaging when iPhone users text Android users, meaning their messaging got stuck in the 1990s”.
Of course, it is very practical for Google to have this kind of talk and systematically get ahead of its direct competitor, especially when a few small features are about to significantly improve the experience in Google Messages. “Most of the mobile world uses RCS, except for one company that is dragging its feet. After 30 years of texting, it’s really time[de passer au RCS]».
