The Fitbit Blaze is a new fitness-focused smartwatch announced at CES 2016. Here’s what you need to know about the new device compared to the Apple Watch.
The Blaze is Fitbit’s first wearable with a color touchscreen, and it’s the company’s closest thing to a full-fledged smartwatch.
However, it’s not the full-fledged smartwatch you can imagine. Instead of coming with all the features most smartwatches have, the Fitbit Blaze is focused solely on fitness and exercise, with a few non-fitness features that Fitbit says users want.
The Apple Watch has its own fitness features but also offers a complete smartwatch experience, so what are the biggest differences between the Fitbit Blaze and the Apple Watch? Here’s what you need to know.
The first thing to know is that the designs of the Apple Watch and Fitbit Blaze are completely different and will suit completely different people. The Fitbit Blaze has a razor-like design with hard edges, in contrast to the smooth and rounded design of the Apple Watch, but a big feature is the ability to quickly replace watch bands as well as watch cases.
The silver rim around the Blaze is the part that can be removed and replaced, and you can replace watch bands as well, but it’s a proprietary watch band system that uses quick-release pins, similar to the Apple Watch.
The biggest thing, though, is that the Fitbit Blaze could be better for hardcore fitness enthusiasts, as it includes many fitness-related features that the Apple Watch doesn’t have.
For example, the Apple Watch doesn’t have a way to track weight lifting, whereas Blaze has a specific feature for lifting weights and tracks your calories burned and other information while you lift.
There are also a handful of different workouts to choose from, so if you want to target abs, you can directly select 10 minutes per hour Abs or something similar and start training.
That said, the Fitbit Blaze includes a few regular smartwatch features, like getting your notifications for text messages and phone calls, as well as seeing your upcoming calendar events, but if you’re looking for more in that house, the Fitbit Blaze is probably not the device for you. However, it does not work with Android devices, while Apple Watch only works with iPhone.
Apple Watch includes some fitness features. At its most basic level, the watch can keep track of how many minutes you have exercised by tracking your heart rate and movement. You can also track a workout like walking, running or cycling and add it to the Activity app.
However, that’s all the Apple Watch tracks locally. That’s not entirely bad, as most everyday users will only be satisfied with the basics, and anyone more interested in fitness can easily get third-party fitness apps on the Apple Watch, but Fitbit has always been a leading brand when it comes to custom fitness. devices and Blaze are no different.
So, when it comes to fitness isn’t a big deal to you and you want a full-fledged smartwatch experience, if you have an iPhone, the Apple Watch is probably the way to go. However, if you’re a fitness freak and really want a wearable that can track fitness at its best, the Fitbit Blaze is the target device in this category.
Also, the Fitbit Blaze will be priced at just $200, which is $150 cheaper than the Apple Watch, so if you’re looking for a good fitness wearable, it’s a win-win situation.
