In early December, a major update is coming to Clash of Clans, one of the most popular mobile games on the planet, that will introduce a few game-changing new features. Today was the first sneak peek releasedwill reveal some major changes to shields, allowing post players to redesign their base layout and more.
At a developer event in late October, Supercell, the developers behind the popular mobile game, revealed a few minor aspects of the update and said there’s a lot more to come soon. Then last week, we learned that starting November 23, there will be promos every day for two weeks, sharing little bits of this big update.
Over the next two weeks, we’ll slowly see the “big picture” for the December Clash of Clans update, but all we know today is that some big changes are coming to Shields. More importantly, demolishing your Town Hall will no longer grant you a Shield. That’s not all though, so read on for more details.
In October, Supercell confirmed that this would be one of the biggest updates in gaming history. Everything from how we attack, how we protect our village, to new troops, larger map sizes for more buildings, and more. There is a lot to come and we will learn a little more every day for the next 2-3 weeks.
The December Clash of Clans update will finally bring Town Hall to level 11, which those who have almost finished the game will look forward to. However, there will be a third hero, a new Eagle defense building to defend our bases, larger map size and a few other things. That’s all the company announced in October, but we’ll learn a lot more today and throughout the week.

Today we learn about the new changes to shields. Then there will be personal breaks and session timers, then multiplayer matchmaking and league bonuses or loot, followed by more sneak peeks, TH11, new heroes and more. All of this will end on December 7th, which is when we heard the update was going to be released.
That said, that’s what we learned today. Shields is about to undergo a major overhaul. To put it bluntly, Town Hall sniping will no longer work and leaving your town hall outside the base will be pointless. Because it will no longer give players a Shield when attacked. Don’t worry, there’s good reason for that.
At first this might sound like a dreadful change as it’s such a big part of the game right now, but it’s only a small piece of the puzzle. Again, to truly understand the “big picture” of this massive game-changing update, we’ll need to stay tuned for more details. We’re also not sure how this will affect farming, but loot bonuses, stars for knocking down a still Town Hall, etc. will definitely be addressed. But we don’t know everything yet.
Currently, when an attacker knocks down a player’s Town Hall, that player instantly receives a shield and cannot be attacked again, the shield lasts longer after 50% of the base is destroyed, or longer if someone takes 100% of the base. So once you are attacked, there is a period when no one can hit you. After the December update this will be completely different.
Above are the two most important parts of this news. You can’t get a shield when a TH is destroyed, but at the same time, users don’t lose their shields to attack. Instead, you can take next, next, next hits to find the perfect base, but once you attack, you lose three hours, not all of your Shield.
With this update, users can attack 2-3 times without losing their Shield. At the same time, they can be attacked multiple times (when Town Hall is destroyed) and receive no Shield at all. Here’s how it will work.
This means that an attacker must use more than 50% of their army units (including Clan Strongholds and Heroes) and receive 30% destruction for anyone to receive a Shield. As a result, there will be more bases to attack, giving players a better ecosystem and more loot to steal while attacking.
Users can still leave out a Town Hall and tons of small buildings that don’t matter to allow an attacker to get a 30% Shield, but don’t make it too easy. The attacker must use at least 50% of their army or you will only lose trophies and money and still have no Shield. There is a fine balance that players have to work out.
It’s all a bit confusing, so Click here for the full change set and detailed breakdown of innovations.
Then as we mentioned above, if a player gets attacked and gets a Shield, they can attack others without losing their Shield. The next hit will still cost money (according to Town Hall) but once you actually do an attack, players will lose 3 hours of their personal shields. Strange, isn’t it?
Over the next few days, all of this will make more sense. There’s a new village guard concept to be announced by Supercell, and a rebalanced loot system for how much money can be earned during the attack, among other things.
It seems a bit silly for now and it can be confusing or confusing, but to fully understand it, we’ll have to stay tuned for more details. In the end, this means there are more bases to attack, which gives us more reasons to play and steal gold or elixirs, and we can attack without losing our shields as well. When we fully understand how everything works, it will benefit everyone in the long run.
Stay tuned because we’ll be learning more about the update every day for the next two weeks. Then wait for the December Clash of Clans update to arrive between December 7-10.
