Earlier today, Supercell, the developers behind the hit mobile game Clash of Clans, announced a brand new game called Clash Royale. It’s not a sequel to Clash, but includes many of the same troops, characters, potions, mortars, and more. Here’s what you need to know about Clash Royale.
The game is a brand new spin-off of Clash, combining two hugely popular mobile game genres. Card collecting games like Hearthstone or Card Wars with popular real-time multiplayer games like League of Legends. Think of it like a turn-based Clash of clans using troops and spells that many already know and love. It certainly won’t appeal to all Clash of Clans fanatics, but it should be one worth checking out.
Clash Royale has been soft-launched in select markets only available for iOS this week, and so far there is no word on whether this game will come to Android. Read on for more details on the brand new Clash Royale.
Supercell is behind many popular games like Hay Day, Boom Beach and of course Clash of Clans, all of which have finally arrived for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets except Hay Day.
Supercell has been one of the top-grossing game developers for mobile over the past few years, with their success hitting an all-time high with Clash of Clans, generating nearly 900 million in revenue in 2013. A little slowdown and Clash Royale may be exactly what the company needs to get back on top. Here’s the launch trailer that gives players a better idea of what to expect from Clash Royale.
Clash of Clans has seen an uproar among angry players since a recent update drastically changed the course of the game and there were numerous threats on the Clash forums about player exits. It is possible that some will switch to a different game that has just started with Clash Royale.
Finnish studio Supercell thinks Clash Royale could be the next big hit. However, as we said above, it is not yet available worldwide. The soft launch this week is only available on iOS and in select regions such as Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, New Zealand and of course their home country of Finland. A US release has yet to be confirmed, but if the game sees success and growing popularity, we can expect other regions to quickly follow, potentially with a release for Android.
Users will collect cards of their favorite Clash troops, Royales, baby dragons, spells and more, then use them to attack in a turn-based multiplayer battle with all their friends or just the regular multiplayer system.
This top-down RTS-style game isn’t considered a sequel to Clash by Supercell, but many have already started calling it that simple because of the characters and overall look and feel.
