In a note published on 9to5MacKou claims that we will see three new iPhones in 2017 and all three will include wireless charging. Kou notes that because wireless charging generates more heat than plugging it in, Apple will need to change the interior design of the iPhone to provide better heat dissipation. According to Kou, the heat will not be felt by consumers, but Apple will have to pay more for it. There’s a redesigned 3D Touch sensor and a new graphite layer to sit inside the iPhone 8.
It’s unclear whether iPhone 8 wireless charging will come in the form of Energous WattUp or in a more traditional form, as shown in the video below.
This report comes right after Fast Company It states that it is for the premium model. A source familiar with Apple’s plans tells the publication that the cost of a new OLED display that spans the front of the phone, a new 3D touch sensor and other changes that will get consumers excited will be quite high.
The leak also reveals the potential of a larger iPhone 8 battery. Combined with wireless charging, this could mean you have to carry the Lightning cable with you and invest less in the battery case if Apple can offer significantly better iPhone battery life.
