Apple Watch saved the lives of 3 people after a serious car accident

Since its launch with the Apple Watch Series 4, the collision detection feature hasn’t always been effective. Or rather, sometimes calling emergency services for no reason became too much, especially when users are in the middle of a ski session. However, these failures are relatively rare, especially since Crash Detection has already demonstrated its determination to keep certain individuals alive by contacting emergency services when the person is no longer in a position to do so.

A recent report from Germany describes the new Apple Watch and Crash Detection exploits. According to Mittelbayerische Zeitung media, on Monday (February 13th), a car carrying three passengers was traveling on the B20 motorway, when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It then crosses the safety barrier before falling about twenty meters.

Apple Watch crash detection saved 3 lives

The passengers then find themselves in a predicament: They are trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle, with no one witnessing the accident. Fortunately, one of them was equipped with the Apple Watch Series 8, and it didn’t take long to realize that a serious accident had just occurred. After determining the exact location of the accident, emergency services intervened to save the three victims.

The driver was slightly injured today, while the other two passengers were more seriously injured. However, none of their vital prognoses have come into play to date. This isn’t the first time the linked watch has saved its owner’s life after a car accident. Last October, another user found himself in exactly the same situation, and again thanks to Crash Detection, he got out of this situation.
