The Apple Clips app is a new video-sharing app that aims to attract Snapchat and Instagram users to a new way to quickly create “meaningful” videos on iPhone and iPad. This free app is coming today and you need iOS 10.3 or iOS 10.3.
Here’s what you need to know about the new Apple Clips app with Live Captions and other features that are part of this new iPhone and iPad video app.
“Clips offer iPhone and iPad users a new way to express themselves through video and are incredibly easy to use,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Apps Product Marketing. “The effects, filters and amazing new Live Titles we’ve designed for clips allow anyone to create great looking, easily shareable videos with just a few taps.”
Apple announced Clips in late March, along with a new Red iPhone 7 and a new iPad with a 9.7-inch display. Now that iOS 10.3.1 is here, Apple is ready to allow users to download the new app.
What is the Apple Clips App?
This is the new Apple Clips app.
Apple Clips app is Apple’s new video app that helps you create more shareable videos. The app only works on iPhone and iPad, but not limited to sharing with other iPhone users.
You can upload videos, photos and music to the Clips app and it will combine the clips into a shareable video that you can post on social media or send via iMessage.
With the Clips app, you can capture live video, import video and photos from your camera roll, and then edit and combine them without having to use complex video editing software. You can add filters, emoji, shapes, and customizable text. Once your video and photos are sorted, you can choose from dozens of music tracks that are automatically sorted by the length of your video clip.
Apple Clips App Release Date
The Apple Clips app release date is today, April 6th. You can now download the Apple Clips app to your iPhone or iPad. Free from the App Store.
Apple Clips Live Titles

The big new feature in Apple’s Clips app is Live Titles. These are animated captions and captions that you create as you speak. Apple explains the feature,
“Users can add animated captions and titles using only their voice. Subtitles are automatically generated when a user is speaking and appear on the screen in perfect sync with the user’s voice. Users can mix and match different styles and tap any title to adjust text and punctuation, or even add inline emoji. Live Titles supports 36 different languages.”
You can add comic filters, speech bubbles, shapes, and even full-screen animated posters to your videos.
Can Apple Share Clips to Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram?
Apple designed the Clips app to help you create videos using your photos, iPhone or iPad camera, and music. The company doesn’t limit where you can share clips. In the announcement, Apple specifically states that you can share it via Facebook, Instagram and the Messages app. Apple also mentions YouTube and Vimeo.
You can save and share Apple Clips on various social networks.
If you share via Messages, the app may automatically suggest you send it to the people who appear in the clips and share it with you most often. Once you have a Clips video in your camera roll, you can upload it to your Instagram Story or Snapchat.
Are Apple Clips Free?
The Apple Clips app is free to download and use on your iPhone and iPad. The app only works on iPhone 5s and newer and the new 9.7-inch iPad, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad mini 2 and later, and iPod touch 6th generation. There is currently no indication that there will be extra music tracks or in-app purchases to unlock Live Titles.
