Amazon Before Apple’s official iPhone 7 event kicked off this morning, it accidentally introduced the iPhone 7 to the world. While Apple’s audiences are listening to music, Amazon has created an iPhone 7 landing page that showcases the iPhone 7 and accessories made specifically for the iPhone 7.
Apple’s partners need some time to create compatible products and prepare their marketing materials, but they have taken an oath of confidentiality. While numerous iPhone 7 details have been rumored and leaked over the past few months, this is the first official marketing material we’ve seen promoting the iPhone 7.
It looks like Amazon mistimed the launch of the Amazon iPhone 7 accessories page until the start of Apple’s press conference instead of the iPhone 7’s actual announcement time. Apple usually saves the iPhone announcement towards the end of its annual event.
The Amazon iPhone 7 landing page reveals many details about the new phone, which will overshadow the official announcement later this morning.
On the (now deprecated) iPhone 7 landing page of Amazon.com, we can clearly see that all iPhone 7 models will have dual cameras. The dual cameras will offer higher dynamic range, more focusing options, and enable other photo and video modes that Apple hasn’t announced yet.
Obviously, the iPhone 7 name is officially iPhone 7. However, at least some Apple marketing shows it as iPhone7 (without spaces).
Perhaps the most controversial item on the Amazon iPhone 7 landing page is that it only has Bluetooth headphones. This suggests that Apple has indeed eliminated the headphone jack. The ubiquitous image of dangling white cords is about to be handed over to the history box.
Amazon and Apple have some kind of contentious relationship. While Apple and Amazon are partners in some respects, Amazon refuses to sell Apple TVs, preferring their own streaming devices. While Amazon sells physical goods through its iOS apps, it does not sell eBooks, movies, or other digital goods through its apps, so it can avoid giving more than 30% of those sales to Apple.
Taking the wind off Apple’s iPhone 7 sails and disrupting Tim Cooks’ grand opening will likely ruin Amazon and Apple’s relationship, or at least cost some Amazon employees jobs.
