Since their introduction, AirTags have been the subject of regular discussion, as they are often used to spy on and harass victims unnoticed. This phenomenon has grown so much that Apple eventually had to release an update that prevented its users from tracking others. That doesn’t stop some from finding new ingenious ways to use the little tracker.
This is particularly the case of Pamela Cerdeira, a Mexican journalist who wanted to find out if donations made through an association met the target. To do this, she tried to send two parcels to Turkey to support the victims of the earthquake that hit the country earlier this year. To ensure that these gifts reach their recipients, she placed an AirTag on each and then tracked their shipment.

Unfortunately, these never arrived safely. More precisely, they were clearly hijacked by the platform he was supposed to be responsible for sending them. Indeed, the two parcels never crossed the Mexican border. In fact, the two packages never even left town. Instead, they were resold in two separate markets, containing rice and toilet paper, respectively.
“I don’t care [ces marchés], but we will gladly investigate the case”, reacted federal lawmaker Oscar Gutierrez Camacho, questioned by Pamela Cerdeira. The case appears to be an isolated case.
