While Zoom was originally created as a serious meeting app for businesses, it has since become one of the most used services during the pandemic for anyone who wants to have a face-to-face virtual chat. As a result, the company is adding more fun stuff like whimsical backgrounds to use for online family gatherings, friend chats, and business meetings. And now it has come with a feature called Studio Effects that gives you the ability to add various eyebrows, beard and lip color to your video footage during Zoom sessions.
The feature, still in beta, isn’t really new — Zoom announced in September 2020 – but this is the first time many Zoom users are the first to discover it. In any case, it’s easy to find. Start a Zoom session and go to Video Settings (found by pressing the arrow next to “Stop Video” at the bottom of the screen). From there, select “Background and Filters” and look for “Studio Effects (Beta)” in the lower right corner. (You may need to download the effects pack first – go ahead, it’ll only take a minute.)
After that, you can influence any look you want. Have you always wanted Groucho Marx eyebrows, a bad goatee or bright green lipstick? It’s there to try. And you can set your face effects either just for that meeting or for every meeting you’re in (which might not be a good idea if you think your last-minute job interview is coming up).
We reached out to Zoom to find out how widespread this new feature is (a few employees here so far). Boundary He reported seeing it in Zoom apps). Personally, I’m hoping that Zoom will add hairstyles to Studio Effects, though this is a lot of fun – those of us who still suffer from pandemic hair (in other words, those of us who haven’t been to a hairdresser about). years) would be extremely grateful.
