YouTube Comments Not Loading? How to fix!

Whether you’re online for work or something else, you may have a tab with YouTube open almost all the time. The service is one that almost everyone turns to for watching and sharing videos, and for good reason. However, there are times when YouTube can also give you trouble. Recently, I noticed that I can’t see YouTube comments in my browser. This is very annoying and if you are in the same situation as me and YouTube comments are not loading for you, here is the solution.

How to Fix YouTube Comments Not Loading

Like I said, this is a random issue, and when it does, it’s very annoying to deal with. Also, since there is no single cause behind this problem, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for it either.

Fortunately, there are loads of things you can try to fix YouTube problems and we’ll discuss them all in this article. I’ll rank the solutions from easiest to most time-consuming, so I recommend that you follow along. However, if you want, you can use the table of contents to jump to any method you think will work.

1. Sign In

The first thing to check if YouTube comments are not loading for you is if you are logged into YouTube. Several people reported that comments on YouTube were only uploaded for them when they were signed in with their Google account.

If you are not signed in, you will see a Sign In button at the top right as shown in the screenshot below. Just sign in with your Google account and hopefully YouTube comments will start loading now.

2. Reload YouTube

If logging in did not work or you are already logged in, the most basic thing to do is to reload the website.

Often times random connection or caching issues can cause problems with websites. If this is the reason why YouTube comments aren’t loading for you, reinstalling them should fix it.

3. Try Watching a Different Video

YouTube also allows creators to disable comments on their videos. There is a possibility that YouTube comments are not loading because they are disabled by the uploader.

Try watching a different video and see if you can view the comments there. If so, there’s nothing wrong with YouTube or your browser, and it’s most likely the video settings chosen by the uploader.

4. Change Comment Order From Best Comments to Newest

If the Comments section appears for you, but you’re seeing a spinning circle instead of comments, this is a method that many users have reported as successful.

Change the comment sort method from Top Comments to Newest Before (or vice versa).

This effectively refreshes the comments section of the video and YouTube should start loading comments on the video properly.

5. Open YouTube in Incognito Mode

If none of the above methods worked, it’s time to see if it’s an issue with your browser’s cache, cookies, or extensions. To check this, try using YouTube in incognito mode and see if comments load in incognito mode.

Hidden in Browsers

If you’re using Google Chrome, you can open an Incognito window by clicking the three-dot menu icon and selecting ‘New Incognito Window’. Or you can use the ctrl + shift + n keyboard shortcut.

If you’re using Microsoft Edge, you can open an InPrivate window by clicking the three-dot menu icon and selecting ‘New InPrivate Window’. You can also use the ctrl + shift + n shortcut.

Open YouTube in the incognito window and play a video. Check if the comments are loaded.

Hidden in the YouTube App

If you’re using the YouTube app on your Android or iOS device, here’s how to switch to incognito mode.

Tap your Google account picture in the top right, then tap ‘Turn On Incognito’.

Now upload a video and see if you can see comments on YouTube.

If using incognito mode fixed the YouTube comments not loading issue, then there’s a problem with your browser. Read on to see what steps you need to take to try and fix this.

6. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

First of all, you should clear your browser’s cache. Cached data can sometimes cause issues like the comment error you are currently experiencing.

Note: clearing cookies will log you out of most websites.

If you are using Google Chrome, you can clear the cache as follows.

  • Go to chrome://settings and search for ‘cache’.

google chrome search for cache

  • Click on the option that says ‘Clear browsing data’.

google chrome clear data

  • Select the time range as ‘All Time’ and click ‘Clear data’.

7. Check Extensions

The next step is to make sure that there are no extensions that are causing problems with YouTube.

To check this, we will disable the extensions one by one and see if the YouTube comments start appearing. Here’s how to disable extensions.

on Google Chrome

  • Go to chrome://extensions. Turn off the toggle for a Chrome extension.

chrome extensions

  • Reload YouTube and see if the comments appear.
  • Repeat the process, disabling the extensions one by one.

in Microsoft Edge

  • Go to edge://extensions. Turn off the toggle for the extension.

If disabling an extension fixes YouTube for you, you can be sure that the extension is causing errors on YouTube. You should remove or at least disable the extension from your browser.

8. Clear App Cache and Data (Android/ iOS)

If the incognito mode on the YouTube app fixed the YouTube comments not loading issue, clearing the app cache and data should fix the issue for you. Here’s how to do this on Android and iPhone.

9. Disable Ad Blockers

If you use ad blockers, they can sometimes interfere with websites like YouTube. If you’re encountering YouTube comments not loading in your browser, try disabling your ad blocker or ad blocker on YouTube. I hope this will fix the issues.

10. Disable Proxy Settings and VPNs

While not always correct, using a VPN can sometimes cause YouTube to misbehave. If you’re using a VPN or routing your internet through a proxy, this may be the reason why YouTube comments aren’t loading for you. Here’s what you can do.

Disable Proxy in Windows 10

  • Search for ‘Proxy’ in the start menu and open ‘Proxy settings’.
  • Turn off the switch next to ‘Automatically detect settings’.

11. Clear DNS Cache

Another thing you can try to do is clear the DNS cache. There’s not a lot of evidence that this fixes anything when it comes to YouTube comments not loading, but it’s not a bad idea to try anyway.

We have handy guides on Clearing or Clearing DNS Cache in Windows 10, and also guides on clearing DNS cache on macOS and Linux that you can check out.

12. Reset Your Browser

Finally, if nothing has fixed the problem, you can try resetting your browser to defaults.

Reset Google Chrome

  • Go to chrome://settings and search for “reset”.
  • Click ‘Restore settings to original defaults’.
