Windows 11: How to increase your Internet speed with the frequency of 5 GHz?

Do you know the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi? Concretely, these are the two frequencies the WiFi network broadcasts on. There is a third 6 GHz, which is not widely used by the general public and therefore we will not discuss today. The difference is in the level of performance the two frequencies allow. 5 GHz is more powerful and offers better throughput, but less radiated than 2.4 GHz.

Most WiFi routers today offer the 5 GHz frequency and most modern devices are compatible with it. In other words, if your device is relatively close to your router, it is better to connect the 5 GHz frequency to enjoy the best possible speed. However, in Windows 11 the PC does not automatically connect to the latter. That’s why we’ll walk you through how to make sure you’re getting the best possible network in your home.

Automatically connect Windows 11 to 2.5 GHz WiFi network

So the first thing to do is to make sure your router offers a 5 GHz connection. To do this, consult its manual or contact your carrier directly. For your PC, it should theoretically have the necessary technology to receive this frequency, as it runs on Windows 11. Once done, you can connect your computer like this:

  1. right click on start menu then click Device Manager
  2. Pull down the menu network cards
  3. search for item showing Wireless Or wireless
  4. Right click on it and then select Features
  5. go to tab To go forward
  6. Choose from the menu on the left Exclusive Band
  7. From the drop-down menu on the right Prefer the 5 GHz band
  8. click OK

And there you go! With this very simple manipulation, you ensure that you are constantly connected to the best possible frequency and therefore enjoy the best possible speed with your router.
