Windows 10: how to unlock your computer with a smartphone fingerprint reader

Fingerprint sensors are found in almost all smartphones in circulation – unfortunately the same cannot be said for PCs. These biometric devices, which can make computers easier to unlock, are becoming more popular with laptops, though not yet the rule. But Android smartphones can act as a biometric reader for your Windows 10 PC using an app. The method also seems to work up to Windows Vista. You need the following prerequisites for the following method to work:

  • A smartphone with a fingerprint reader Running Android 5.0 Lollipop or later
  • Windows PC (version 10 recommended) connected to the internet

Attention : The method presented in this tutorial is not compatible with iPhones.

How to unlock Windows 10 with smartphone fingerprint reader

For him:

Important : when prompted by the installer, verify the firewall exception required by Remote Fingerprint Unlock

  • Lock your Windows session (Boiler + L or via the Start menu)
  • enter inside Remote Fingerprint Unlock on your smartphone and follow the app instructions to scan your fingerprint and generate unique keys
  • Then go to the menu (top left) and then scanning To add your PC

Important : The module on the PC is active only when the session is locked. Do this if the application does not detect your PC. Also, all your devices must be on the same local network for your PC to be detected.

  • Tap the name of your computer, then save
  • back to menu top left, then my accounts
  • You should see your computer’s name displayed – tap the icon. ADD ACCOUNT then enter the credentials you normally use to unlock the computer
  • then scan your fingerprint SAVE
  • Check that the Session ID number on your smartphone and PC lock screen is the same, then tap . TO CONTINUE

You can now unlock your session via this app:

  • Open Remote Fingerprint Unlock on your smartphone
  • go to menu then top left Unlock
  • Scan your fingerprint – your Windows session should normally be unlocked!
