How to access the classic command prompt (cmd)
If your computer has not yet benefited from the Creators Update, you may still have access to the classic Command Prompt. There are several methods to access it:
via a keyboard shortcut
- Press the keys simultaneously Win+R
- a window with a title To apply is displayed: type cmd back then Entrance
Via the search field of the start menu
- click on the menu To start press or Earning
- start typing cmd
- Click on it to open or write Entrance
- Press keys to launch Command Prompt in administrator mode Ctrl + Shift + Enter
via the start menu
- click on the menu To start
- Call cmd on the list
- Click on it to start
- To start in administrator mode, right click and click instead. Execute as administrator
How to Access Powershell
Powershell completely replacing cmd with Creators Update, you can use it instead of the latter to do the same thing. This will keep you using the many tutorials discussing cmd with Powershell. There are still a few methods to access it:
via a keyboard shortcut
- Press the keys simultaneously Win+R
- a window with a title To apply is displayed: type power shield back then Entrance
Via the search field of the start menu
- click on the menu To start press or Earning
- start typing power shield
- Click on it to open or write Entrance
- Press keys to launch Command Prompt in administrator mode Ctrl + Shift + Enter
via the start menu
- Right click on the menu To start
- Click Windows PowerShell or Windows PowerShell (administrator) depending on what you want to do.
How to re-enable Cmd replaced with Powershell?
If you want, it’s also possible to undo what Creators Update did and Cmd back as before:
- enter inside Start > Settings > Personalization
- In the left column, taskbar
- Deactivate Replace Command Prompt with Powershell in the menu when I right click on the menu or press Windows key + X
