Rumors that Google was working on Duo group invite links to add people to group conversations were rampant in April. And now Google is rolling out Duo Group Call invite links feature for all Duo users. In this post, let’s take a look at what Google Duo group invite links are and how to use them.
The feature is similar to Zoom invitations and specifically the recently introduced Messenger Rooms. The Google Duo app creates a link when you create a group that needs to be shared with others. Others can join even in the middle of the conversation if they are part of the group.
Let’s learn about Duo group invites and how to use them.
What are Google Duo Group Links?
Until now, it had to search and select users from contact lists to add them to a Duo group. Now the same has been accomplished by connections, although the traditional flair is still present.
You will be given a unique link for your group that you should share with other people you want to join your group with. Share the link on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook etc. You can share it using any other application such as Other users have to tap the link where they can accept or decline the group invitation. Any member can initiate a group search when they are part of the same group.
How to Find Duo Group Links
There are two ways to create and find a group link in Duo.
Method 1: Send Invite Before Starting a Call
In the first method, when you create a group and add at least one member, the Duo app will show you the group invite link.
So start the Duo app on your phone and click on the Create group button at the bottom. Add at least one member to the group.
The application will take you to the group call screen. Here you will find the group invite. Copy the invite link using the button next to it or tap the share icon and send it to your friends via any app. Only when a member taps the Start button will the Duo app create a call and notify others about it.
When you add others to a group before starting a real call, the app notifies you that you’ve added them to a Duo group.
Method 2: Send Mid-Call Invite
If you are already in a group call, any of the group members can invite more people (up to 12 people) in the middle of the call. Click the three-dot icon at the bottom of the search screen, then click the Share icon to find the invite link. Send the link to your friends.
Note: If the three-dot icon is missing, update your Duo app or try to troubleshoot Duo not working properly.
Who Can Join Duo Group Using Links
Anyone with a Duo account can join the group. A Duo account and app are required.
What Happens When You Get a Duo Group Invitation?
When a Duo user clicks the invite link, the Duo app opens on their phone. If your phone does not have the Duo app, the interface will take you to the Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS) to download the app.
Next, you will see other group members and the ability to join or decline the group invitation. Tapping the join button will take you to the ongoing call.
If there is no video call in progress at the moment, the app’s interface will take you to the group home screen. Tap the Start button to create a group video call.
Can Other Members Share Group Links?
Yup. As mentioned above, any group member can invite more people using the link. So be careful with whom you share your group link.
What If The Creator Ends The Group Conversation
If a group creator or another member ends the group search, the search isn’t over for everyone. Only when everyone leaves the group call does it end. Until then, others can join the group call. All group members will see the message ‘Join live call’ on the group icon.
Where to Create and Join Group Invitations
Duo group calling is currently not available on the web, so you can only create and join group links from the mobile apps (Android and iOS). If you have a Chromebook, the links also work on that, as it uses the Duo Android app.
Competition Strong
Google Duo, Facebook Messenger, Zoom, WhatsApp etc. It is constantly adding great features to compete with other video calling apps like From increasing the number of people on a call from 8 to 12 and promoting group connections, Duo tries its best.
However, it wouldn’t be right to compare Duo with Zoom because firstly, it’s more of a personal app. Google has the Meet app for video conferencing for your professional work or school classrooms. Also available inside Gmail for faster access. Before you go, find out how Duo differs from Meet and whether you should switch to it.
