One of the biggest features on the Apple Watch is its fitness tracking capabilities. Here’s how to use Apple Watch’s Activity feature to be more active in your daily life.
While the main features of Apple Watch are all about creating an extension of your iPhone and wearing it on your wrist, Activity is a secondary feature that is not hidden in any way and can only be extremely useful to users. Those who want to get in shape and be healthier.
While the Activity can technically be considered some kind of Apple Watch app, I feel more like a smartwatch built-in feature. The device has all kinds of sensors that track your movements and turn them into readable data that you can then look at on your Apple Watch to achieve your goals.
However, before we dive into how to use the Activity feature on the Apple Watch, it’s important to know exactly what Activity is on the device and what it’s tracking.
Apple Watch Activity App
Simply put, the Activity feature on the Apple Watch tracks your movement throughout the day by collecting several different data points, such as steps taken, your heart rate, and whether you’re sitting or standing.
While not 100% accurate, it at least gives you a good idea of how much you actually move throughout the day and whether you need to move more than you actually do.
There are three main things that activity monitors: how much you move in general, how much you exercise, and how often you get up and move around each hour.
In fact, these three things make up the three rings you see front and center when you open Activity on your Apple Watch (as well as the Activity app on your iPhone). The red ring is the Movement ring, the green ring is the Exercise ring, and the blue ring is the Stop ring. Your goal is to fill all three rings each day and increase your goal occasionally. This is how the activity basically works.
How to Use Apple Watch Activity
Click the Digital Crown to access the Activity app on your Apple Watch, then find the app with the three round colored circles. Tap on it to open.
If you haven’t opened and installed the app yet, this is where you will install it. Tap on it and then enter your information such as your gender, age, weight and height. Tap on it and then set an initial destination to go to. Then tap . You can also install the Activity app on your iPhone.
Once the app is installed, it will start monitoring your activity. Here’s exactly what they followed to get a better idea of each of the rings:
To view your activity progress throughout the day, simply open the Activity app on your Apple Watch or iPhone. The iPhone app provides a little more information where you can view the calendar of your Events history and view past events.
You can also add Activity Glance to your Apple Watch for faster access to the app. Just go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap on it. From there, tap in the top-right corner and then tap the green plus icon next to it to move it to the top if it’s not already there.
Now on your Apple Watch, you can swipe up to bring Glances and view the Activity app quickly and easily. Note that the Activity Look will only let you see the three rings. For more information, you will have to go to the Activity app, which you can open by simply tapping the rings.
Customizing Event Notifications
Need reminders when to get up and move? Or are you interested in getting alerts about your progress throughout the day? You can customize the notifications you receive on your Apple Watch.
Go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and select Activity. From here, there are several toggle switches you can set. You can receive booth reminders, progress updates, and notifications when you complete a goal or earn an achievement.
While the Apple Watch can do all sorts of cool things like answering phone calls and answering texts, its stealth feature is to get you in shape and get more active, and that’s perhaps the best part: Your Apple Watch moves you more without really even realizing it and hitting your daily goal. You feel compelled to achieve it.
