Using Philips Hue Lights as Alarms

Do you wake up before the sun rises in the morning? Here’s how to use Philips Hue lights as alarms and simulate sunrise.

Sometimes it can be pretty depressing when you have to wake up early in the morning and it’s still dark outside. You usually have a tendency to stay in bed and sleep a little longer. Therefore, there are a ton of products on the market that provide a simulated sunrise in the morning if you need to get up at a godless hour.

However, if you have Philips Hue lights, you can do this without any extra tools, and the official Philips Hue app allows you to set alarms with your lights on your smartphone.

If you’re not familiar with Philips Hue, it’s a brand of smart connected lighting that lets you control your lights from your smartphone, wherever you are in the world. There are also certain Hue bulbs that you can change the color of, adding some pizazz to your home setup.

In any case, if you want your Hue lights to be on at a certain time, especially in the morning, to simulate sunrise, here’s how to use Philips Hue lights as an alarm.

Setting Philips Hue Lights as Alarm

Before you can set an alarm for your Philips Hue lights, you only need to create a “scene” for your lights, which is a simple preset.

To do this, open the Philips Hue app, tap the menu icon in the upper left corner and then select . From there, tap on it in the upper right corner.

Then uncheck any lights you see. don’t do that I want to use it for your alarm. Then move the sliders all the way to the right for each of the remaining lights. Next, tap the small downward arrow and drag around the pin to the color or color temperature you want. I recommend using a warm color temperature to simulate sunrise.

After that, tap in the top right corner and name the scene like “Sunrise” and then tap .

Next, tap the menu icon and then select .

Tap the icon in the upper right corner and then choose when the popup will appear.

Set a time when you want your simulated sunrise to start. Then tap on it and select the scene you created earlier.

Next, tap on it and choose how long you want your lights to slowly dim until they reach full brightness. The maximum time is 60 minutes.

Set, you can choose this alarm to sound at the same time on certain days you request.

After that, press the top corner and the alarm will now appear in the list. From here, you can enable or disable the alarm at any time without deleting it completely. To clear an alarm, simply swipe left and then press .

Something like this probably isn’t as good as waking up to the natural sun, but it’s definitely the next best option.
