Using LG G3 as Remote Control

Like last year’s LG G2 and a few phones from other manufacturers, the brand new LG G3 is packed with features. One is to use your new smartphone as a remote control. The LG G3 is extremely powerful and can do many things, and here we’ll show you how to set it up to control your entire TV and living room experience.

The new LG G3 has tons of impressive features and features like the 13-megapixel laser autofocus camera, but taking great pictures isn’t all it can do. If you want to control your TV, they have enabled several easy ways for you to do so.

Like most traditional TV remotes, there’s an IR blaster on top of the LG G3 to send all signals. This allows you to easily control your HDTV, cable box and other home theater equipment. The included app works great instead of a third-party download like Samsung offers, so let’s check it out.

The LG G2 and a few of LG’s other new smartphones and tablets have this feature, but it just gets better with each update. Not only can you set up your LG G3 as a remote control, you can also create custom options for each room depending on what equipment you have and have it always at hand with the quick access panel in the notification popup bar. We lie on the sofa.

It’s super easy to set up and use, so read on for a few simple instructions, screenshots, and our how-to video below.

Instructions

To use your LG G3 as a remote control, if you haven’t downloaded a lot of content, you’ll probably want to start by opening the built-in “Quick Remote” app found on page 3 of apps. We’ll show you everything below.

go. From here, you will see the same as we show below; this lets you choose between a TV, Cable Box, Audio equipment (like my Mcintosh receiver) or even a universal remote control option. Decide which room you want to use and get started.

The app then lets you choose your preferred TV brand or search if you have an off-brand brand like Insignia. Then, after choosing your preferred TV, it will start with the device turning on. You’ll get on-screen instructions for everything and one will cycle through the codes until they work. Not all TVs use the same code. Then you’ll do the same for mute and possibly input selection and you’re done. When you’re done, you’re ready and can easily control your TV.

The same steps can be followed for your Cable Box from DirecTV, Cox, or Comcast or anyone else for that matter. Without trying to explain everything too much, give us our quick how-to video in under an hour and get started right away.

One of our favorite features of the LG G2 has been ported to the LG G3 and copied by Samsung with the Galaxy S5 and Peel remote, which gives quick access to the remote in the notification bar. As shown in the video above, pull down the notification bar and hit the “Quick Remote” circle in a sea of icons and you’ll find an easy way to access your remote with a single swipe.

This may not be available by default so pull down the notification bar and swipe to the far right where WiFi, Bluetooth and other options are. Select Edit, scroll down and make sure Quick Remote is checked. Then swipe to the area you want. Mine is 3rd on the list so it’s always a click away.

This much. You are ready. This is a great way to make sure you always have control of the TV, even if someone else loses the remote. We’ve all been there and LG came to the rescue.
