Tasker is one of the most popular automation tools for Android. While it is somewhat complicated to use, it can offer many customization options for your device when used correctly. While Tasker is very powerful in itself, there are a few add-ons that make it a beast. That said, one of the most useful plugins is AutoTools. It adds a lot of functionality to Tasker, most of which I will cover in this article. But before we get there, let me tell you how to add AutoTools to Tasker.
Add AutoTools to Tasker
The first and most obvious step to add AutoTools or any plugin for that matter, Get the Tasker app (7 day trial, $2.99) installed on your device. After doing that, follow the steps given below.
- Download AutoTools (30 day trial, full of in-app purchases) Install it on your device from the Play Store.
- Now open Tasker and Go to the “Tasks” tab. Here, add a new task by tapping the plus icon in the lower right corner of the screen. You can choose any name for it.
- You will now need to add an action for this task. To do this again tap the plus icon in the lower right corner of the screen and then Choose “plugin”.
- You should now see a list of all the Tasker plugins you have installed on your device. Choose Auto Tools from this list by tapping on it. You will now see another list – this time multiple actions you can do with the plugin.
Now that you know how to add AutoTools to Tasker, you can try the endless customization options offered by the plugin. While it’s beyond the scope of this article to go into detail for each, we’ll still go over some possibilities.
Customization Options Offered by AutoTools
AutoTools plugin, App Shortcuts, Link, Flashlight, Launcher etc. It offers many actions such as Each of these actions can also offer a wide range of customization options, increasing the number of possibilities for you. For starters, you can use “Web Screens”. One of the things Samsung does best is to use great displays on their devices. With the introduction of edge screens with the Galaxy S6 Edge, they took full advantage of this by implementing shortcuts that can be accessed by swiping from the edge of the screen. Given the praise this feature has received, it’s no surprise to see AutoTools offer it as a feature for any other Android smartphone. 1. Create a Scrolling Screen
The first step in this procedure is to create a scrolling screen using the AutoTools plugin. This allows you to set a command by swiping from the side of your screen. There are certain steps you must follow to do this.
- Firstly, Select “Web Display” From AutoTool’s list. back then tap the edit icon Next to “Configuration”.
- From the next screen, Tap on “Import Preset”. Now go to “Scroll” and then Tap “Import”. This changes the preset to Scroll.
- Tap “Screen Preset” to confirm and make sure “Slide” is selected. Once you’ve done that, scroll down until you find it. “Commands” under “Screen Variables” and then tap on it.
- Now, in the screen below, Tap on “Command Prefix” and clear the field. Make sure nothing is written there and then tap “OK”. Repeat this for all the different commands – “Scroll Left”, “Scroll Right”, “Scroll Up” and “Scroll Down”.
- Tap “Swipe Left” again, but this time, type “clap” Tap on the input field and then on “OK”.
- Now go back until you reach the “Task Edit” page (you will have to triple-tap the back button from the Commands screen to get there). Here, Tap the play button You should see a thin purple line on the right side of the Now screen at the bottom left corner of the screen to start the task.
2. Create Application Launcher
Now that you have created a scrolling screen, you will be prompted to create the application launcher. For this you need to do first Install AutoApps (Free with in-app purchases) and Auto-Start (Free with in-app purchases). After that, follow the steps below to continue.
- On the main screen of Tasker, Go to the “Profiles” tab. Now add one by tapping the plus icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. From the list you see now, Select “Activity” and then “Plugin”.
- Again, you will see the list of Tasker plugins on your device, but this time, Select “Automatic Applications”. Next, tap the edit icon Against “configuration”.
- From the next screen, Select “Command Filter”, call it “clap”, then tap “OK” (note that it should be named exactly that). On the same screen, check the box for the setting that says. “Exactly the same”.
- Now go back to Tasker’s profile tab, then Tap on “New Mission”. You will be asked to name this task, but this is optional. just remember tap the checkmark against the entrance area.
- This will take you to the “Task Edit” page. Here, add an action by tapping the plus icon in the lower right corner of the screen and then “Plugin” selection.
- Here, Select “Autostart” and then tap on “Query”.
- Again, tap the edit icon Against “Configuration” and on the screen below, tap the checkmark on the top right of the screen.
- After that, go back to the “Task Edit” page and tap the plus icon in the lower right corner of the page. Select the “Plugin” category.
- Select the “AutoTools” pluginthen scroll down Select “Web Display”.
- Now Edit “Configuration” and Tap on “Screen Preset”.
- This time, Tap on “Card List”then select “Display Mode”. “Covering”.
- Go now Tap on “Window Settings”, “Width”, type “100”and finally tap on “OK”.
- Repeat the previous step by typing “to fill” In “Height” and selecting “Gravity” “bottom right”.
- In the same window, select the “Animation” item. “Swipe Right”.
- Now go back and select “Cards”. Here, select “Card Titles”.
- clear this area and then tap on “OK”.
3. End Launcher
Here are the last few steps to finalize the launcher:
- go “Command Options” and open both “Close on Command” and “Wait for Command”.
- After that, go back “Cards”choose “Card Titles”and tap the tags icon. Select here “%allabels()”.
- Similarly, “Card Images”choose “% alicons()” and for “Card Commands”choose “%alpackages()” You may be prompted to find files during this step. You can tap “No”.
- Now go back and go “Order”, make the following changes:
“Max Card Widths” –> 90%
“Min Card Widths” –> 90%
“Maximum Image Height” –> 75
“Title Text Size” –> 10
“Card Fill” –> 0
“Card Alignment” –> Center
- After that, go back “Task Edit” page and tap the plus button -> Plugin –> Autostart –> Autostartand finally edit “Configuration”.
- Here, go “Advanced” -> “Package Name”Then tap the sticker icon and choose “% command” followed by Tapping on “Full Package Name” checkbox.
- Finally, go to: “Task Edit” page again and tap the play button in the lower left corner of the screen.
You will now see an edge menu similar to that on Samsung smartphones like the S6 Edge, S7 Edge and Galaxy S8.
