“Updating Google Play Services”: how to remove this annoying error on Huawei and Honor smartphones?

If you are using an Honor or Huawei smartphone, you have probably seen this annoying “Google Play Services is updating” message when trying to use certain apps. The bug is known to Google and Huawei and should be fixed with an upcoming EMUI overlay update. By the way, if you’re worried, it’ll probably give you a nice leg. To get rid of the “Updating Google Play Services” error message:

  • enter inside Settings > Apps & Notifications > Apps
  • From the list, select Google Play Services
  • enter inside Storage > Clear cache
  • enter inside Manage Domain > Clear All Data

The problem indeed seems to be related to the 12.6.73 update of the Google Play Services app. On the forums, some users report that downgrading the EMUI provides a more definitive solution.
