Facebook users who are bored with Farmville invites or other annoying game apps on the service can close them quickly and easily. Unfortunately this simple method requires using the website instead of the Facebook mobile apps for iPhone or Android, but we’ll also show you how to turn them off on a smartphone or tablet.
When a notification arrives on a person’s cell phone, the little joy a friend or family member communicates dissipates when the person realizes that the notification is actually an advertisement for many online games or birthday apps running on Facebook.
Facebook allows users to easily turn off these notifications using the website’s notification drop-down list. A more complex method works in the implementations of the service. Here’s how to do this on the website.
How to Turn Off Facebook Notifications?
First go to: Facebook and find the dropdown list of notification. It sits between the Facebook logo and the search box and looks like a globe.
A list opens when a user clicks the globe logo. Find a notification that needs to be turned off. Hover over it and an X will appear next to that item.
Click the X and the option to turn off such notifications is shown.
If a notification looks more like spam, the user can click the “Report app as spam” link and Facebook will evaluate whether it’s really spam.
To undo these notifications, go to the Account Settings page from the drop-down list next to the username in the upper right corner of the Facebook homepage.
Notification settings page shows and finds the last item in the sublist. Click Edit and scroll through the list to open or close any app that offers notifications to users.
Turning Off Facebook Notifications on iPhone and Android
The above process only works when done on a website using a computer browser. It didn’t work on iPad using Safari or Chrome. Facebook apps running on iOS or Android also don’t offer this option.
Turning off those annoying notifications is not that easy to do in the mobile app. Tap the menu button in the upper left corner of the main Facebook page.
Scroll down until Account Settings appears and tap it.
Tap Notifications, the second item on this page.
Turn off all app notifications by tapping the red Close button.
Using both options stops annoying notifications. Now grandma notices Lucky Slots and requests to add birthdays to that annoying app don’t show up on the iPhone’s notification screen.
