With the release of ClockworkMod Tether for Android, connecting your Mac or PC to your Android phone for internet access has become much easier and safer.
This new app lets you connect your Android smartphone, including Galaxy Nexus, to your Windows, Mac or Linux computer to share your phone’s internet connection.
Unlike most other solutions, this free Android tethering app is . Another big plus for most users is that this app can run with your carrier for $20 to $30 per month.
ClockworkMod Tether is currently in alpha, but it seems to be working already. Unlike the built-in tethering apps on most phones, you need to connect your phone via USB for this to work. Bluetooth connection is being worked on, but no estimated time of arrival.
You will also need to install a small application on your computer that makes the connection work. ClockwordMod Tether will use this app and other tricks to hide your tethering from carriers. This is important because operators do not allow connection without a specific connection plan.
You can download the free tethering app today and try it with your phone, but this version will be discontinued on January 7. New versions of the app will be made available as progress is made. Expect to see a flashier version available on a one-time payment in the near future.
If you’re worried about breaking carrier rules, leave that alone and purchase a tethering plan from your carrier when you need it. Unlike this solution, you can share the link with your iPad and computer. Given the cash flow that carriers get from tethering plans, this app may run into problems in the future, so keep that in mind before purchasing the final version.
