Sync Audio While Watching Movies on Mac

Hate the silent dialogue that comes after the booming explosions in movies? Here’s how to sync audio on your Mac and fix the problem.

If you watch a lot of movies on your computer, you no doubt know how audio is processed. Throughout a movie or TV show, the volume fluctuates tremendously, often the silent dialogue scenes are too quiet to really be heard, followed by some really loud explosion scenes with music. Especially in these quiet dialogue scenes, when you turn up the volume, the ensuing explosions and music can be deafening.

This happens mostly because the audio on a DVD (or any other format) is usually designed for surround sound setups and the volume is pretty great when you have the right home theater equipment, but since you can’t actually hook up your laptop, you can practically use a surround sound system for users. they have to cope with headphones, a small 2.0 speaker setup, or just the laptop’s internal speakers.

However, there is a way to equalize that sound so you don’t have to keep adjusting the sound of a movie accordingly.

Some video players come with their own sync technology to accomplish this, and VLC is one of the most popular options. The next time you find yourself stuck in a big battle with your computer while watching a movie, try playing the game in VLC and use these settings to end the battle once and for all.

Instructions

The first thing you need is the VLC video player. free download from developer’s website. If you don’t know what VLC is, it’s an open source video player that can play almost any video file type you can throw at it.

Perhaps the best part about VLC is that its settings are as complex as you want it to be. In other words, if you’re a novice user, VLC will work out of the box, but if you’re more experienced, you can take advantage of some of the more advanced settings and features.

Once you have downloaded and installed VLC, start playing a movie with it, pause it, and then click and tap on it in the menu bar in the upper left corner.

Then go to . You should see a handful of numbered settings that you can change with the up and down arrows on the right. If so, you are at the right place.

When a scene in a movie is really quiet, you have to turn up the volume to hear it better, but if you do, the louder scenes will be really loud and you have to turn your volume down. To fix this, you use a compressor to automatically turn the volume down when there’s a noisy scene, and then turn it back on. That said, let’s start by changing some settings.

The first thing you’ll want to do when you open your movie is to set your computer’s volume to the level you usually have when watching a video. Next, find a silent dialogue scene within the movie. You may find that the sound is barely audible, so go back to the sound settings you opened and turn up the number next to it until the volume is at a comfortable level so you can hear the dialogue. This will amplify the volume of the entire movie, but don’t worry, we’ll also adjust the loud scenes to compensate.

Then increase the setting as high as it will go. This will ensure that any sound above a certain volume is reduced to a level you specify, which brings us to the next step.

Next, find a loud scene within the movie and start playing it. Make sure you don’t adjust your computer’s volume at all during this entire process. Turn the volume down until it’s raspy.

Finally, raise it up to 50 and raise it up to 300. These two settings allow automatic volume adjustment to be made gradually, not instantly. These numbers are measured in milliseconds, so you can adjust them yourself if you want.

Click on the lower right corner of the window and enjoy your movie! You should notice that the silent dialogue scenes are easier to hear and the louder explosion scenes are a bit quieter and not over the top. Of course, you may have to go back and make minor adjustments if you want it to be perfect, but these are mostly rough adjustments that you have to get the job done.
