Setting Up Text Expansion in iOS 7

If you own any smartphone, you probably write a lot of text messages or emails. Having all that productivity in your pocket is pretty convenient, but typing with your thumbs on a small keyboard can get pretty tiring after a while. Like most people, I like to keep my emails and text messages short while using my phone, so my mobile conversations can seem very short and lazy.

However, there is something called text expansion that can make your life a lot easier, and whether you need to write a long email on the go or a quick text message to a friend, it helps tremendously. or family member. However, before I show you how to set up text expansion, you need to know what text expansion is.

What is Text Expansion?

Simply put, text expansion lets you type an acronym or keyword that automatically expands to a longer phrase or word. For example, you can set it to automatically replace it whenever you type, so you don’t have to type the whole phrase.

You can also set an abbreviation for canned responses. So if you get a lot of emails where you always reply with the same phrase, this is where text expansion can come in handy; It can be great when you don’t want to keep typing the same thing over and over on your mobile device.

Setting Up Text Expansion in iOS 7

iOS 7 comes with built-in text expansion, although you usually have to get third-party apps on Windows and OS X to use text expansion. Open the Settings app and go to the section and scroll down. This is where you will set up text expansion statements. From the large photo at the top, you can see that I already have a few settings for the words I type most often, including my email address that I use as my keyboard.

Tap on it to start constructing sentences. In the text box, type the word or phrase you want to open when you type a short keyboard or abbreviation. Then type that keyword or abbreviation in the text box. When that’s done, tap the icon in the top right corner. You’re done!

To add another phrase, simply repeat the above process until you have all the words and phrases you want to set up. After you set more than a few phrases, iOS will place them all in an alphabetical list (similar to your Contacts list) where you can navigate between them and find specific ones easily.
