Remap Android TV Remote to Add Quick Shortcuts

After the launch of Google TV, things heat up in the Android TV space. We were able to install Google TV on Android TV and luckily it worked pretty well with a few exceptions. This led us to many revelations and we’ve included all our findings in our Android TV tips and tricks article. And now we have found a simple tutorial on how to remap Android TV remote to bring additional shortcuts and functions. You can take screenshots by pressing the button, skip tracks with the volume buttons, turn off the screen and much more. First of all, you have to Install Button Mapper. This is a free app, but some customizations require you to pay a one-time fee of $4.99 (Rs 175). The developer is kind enough to let you use the Pro features without any charge. Press “No Thanks” every time you get the Pro feature prompt. However, if you are going to use the app on your Android TV, you should consider opting for the paid plan.

1. Open Play Store on your Android TV to install the app and Search for “button mapper”. After that install the app. Alternatively, you can use Button Mapper (Freeoffers in-app purchases) from your desktop to your Android TV too.

2. After the application is installed, open Button Mapper and ask Enable accessibility service. Click “OK”.

3. Now open Settings and Device Preferences Go to -> Accessibility -> Button Mapper -> Turn on toggle.

4. Reopen Button Mapper and click “Main menu key“.

5. Now, Enable the “Customize” toggle and choose the pattern of how you will use the Home button. For example, I chose “Double-tap” for the Home button.

6. Next, select the action you want to perform. I chose”Screenshot“.

7. You are now ready. simply Press the Home button twice On your Android TV remote and your TV will take a screenshot. After that, you can use the Send Files to TV app (Freeoffers in-app purchases) to transfer the image to your smartphone.

8. Similarly, you can remap the Back and Menu buttons. But here I will show you how to do it. replace parts Using the “Volume Buttons”.

9. Enable the “Customize” toggle and click “long press” (or any other option you want).

10. Next, Go to the drop-down menu with “Actions” and change it to “Media”. Now, select “Next track”. You’re done. If you’re playing a song on Spotify, just double-tap the Volume up button; The part will change.

11. Finally, you can also customize other buttons on your remote. For example, I don’t use the dedicated Prime Video button on my Android TV remote. So, click on “ to change the default buttons.add button“.

12. Click “Add Button” here and press the button on your remote I pressed the Prime Video button you want to change.

13. It will now register the remote button. Next, go to the registered button and open it.
