RCS: How to force activation of SMS replacement on any Android smartphone?

RCS still not activated on your smartphone? There might be a solution: A redditor shared a tip for installing RCS on almost any Android smartphone. This is based on the latest beta of Android Messages, an app called Android Launcher, and clearing the cache of certain apps.

How to install RCS on your Android smartphone

For him:

  • disable Wireless on your smartphone to force it to use carrier data.
  • check that you are using Google Messages To send/receive SMS
  • Go to Play Store and search Google Messages
  • On the app page, scroll down and click join the beta
  • Go to another page of Play Store and then Google Messages : you should be offered an update
  • Restart your smartphone
  • enter inside Settings > Apps
  • On Samsung smartphones, wipe cache data associated with the app Carrier Services (if the app is not listed, install it from Play Store)
  • Wipe cache data from: Google Messages beta
  • install the app Event Launcher from Play Store
  • Open Event Launcher
  • Click the down arrow at the top of the window and All activities
  • Scroll down the app list Android Messages
  • Under Android Messages Do not touch Set RCS Flags
  • Do not touch ACS url and enter the following address:
  • Do not touch OTP Pattern and select the only option from the list
  • Do not touch To apply
  • enter inside Settings > Apps > Google Messages
  • Force stop app
  • Open Google Messages
