Attention Nexus One owners. If you want to install Android 2.3.4 on your phone right now (who likes to wait for OTA updates?), then there is an easy manual installation process you can follow to get it up and running right now.
Last week, Google announced that Android 2.3.4 will be rolling out to the Nexus S and Nexus One in the coming weeks. Shortly after this announcement, manual setup became available for some Nexus S owners, upsetting those still using Nexus One.
No need to upset Nexus One owners anymore, as there is now a way to manually install the Android 2.3.4 update right now, which means you can avoid waiting for the launch currently in progress. Here’s how to do this:
1. Download the update Here.
2. You will want to rename the file to update.zip. If you’re using a windows machine, you can rename it to update without the zip.
3. Copy this file, update.zip or update file and place it on your microSD card.
4. Make sure the Nexus One is turned off and then hold down the trackball and press the power button.
5. When you see the white screen and Androids you will want to select Bootloader.
6. At this point, your phone will reboot and you should see another Android besides a triangle.
7. Now press volume up and power button at the same time.
8. You will want to select Apply sdcard:update.zip or Apply sdcard:update using the trackball.
9. Boom, Android 2.3.4
These instructions should get you into action right away and get your Nexus One squared off with a host of bug fixes. For those wondering what’s in the update, you can go here and see the full list.
