Netflix fans, would you like to be able to watch series and movies from the catalog offline? To do this, all you have to do is download the episode or feature film that interests you directly on the Netflix site or app. We explain how to do it. Follow the leader.
“We know that while many subscribers enjoy watching Netflix at home, they also enjoy watching the latest episode of Stranger Things on the plane or other places where mobile internet is expensive.” Eddy Wu, director of product innovation at Netflix, explained it a few years ago.
The finding is relevant and a real need for many users of the streaming app. Netflix content is easy to download for later viewing. We show you how.
Before downloading a Netflix series or movie
Note that to download a movie or series from the Netflix catalog, this possibility is only available on certain operating systems. If you’re using a Mac/MacBook or Linux system, you’re out of luck. These platforms actually do not have the Netflix app and it is not possible to record Netflix video from the web version (from a browser). Here are the supported devices:
- An Android smartphone or tablet (version 4.4.2 or higher).
- An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 9.0 or later.
- An Amazon Fire tablet (Fire OS 4.0 or higher).
- A computer running Windows 10 (version 1709 or higher) or Windows 11.
- Some computers running Chrome OS.
Please note that not all content is downloadable. If a thread or series isn’t working, it’s because Netflix’s license agreement does not allow the series to be saved for offline viewing. The good news is that all original series and movies produced by Netflix are available for download.
This is especially true for Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, or Luke Cage. Also remember that everything you download is stored in your device’s internal memory. Don’t forget to clean it once in a while.
Before you start downloading customize download settings :
- Open Netflix app
- find in Application settings
- tick Wi-Fi only (to avoid grilling all your data for no reason)
- find in video quality and Select Standard (if your internal storage is a bit limited) or High school (if you want to enjoy HD on the go).
How to download series and movies from the Netflix catalog to your Android or iOS smartphone?
Whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, tablet or Android smartphone, the maneuver is similar. To download a TV show or movie from the catalog you will of course need an internet connection (yes, that makes sense).
- Open Netflix app on your smartphone
- Click on the TV show or movie of your choice:
- For a series, go episode list and hit the download logo on the right. The icon will rotate to indicate that the episode is being transferred.
- For a movie, go to the movie card and logo download right, right next to sharing
- see you in the next section Downloads (My Videos) lower right to access downloaded content
- Click play to watch the episode or movie offline!
How to download series and movies from the Netflix catalog to your computer?
Now, Only computers running Windows 10 benefit from the Netflix app and therefore can legally download the contents of the catalog. The streaming service’s website does not currently offer a download option.
- Open the Netflix app on your computer
- Click on the TV show or movie of your choice:

How long do I need to watch the Netflix series and movies I have downloaded?
Please note that movies and TV shows downloaded from the Netflix catalog cannot be used forever! Every month, movies and TV shows disappear from the Netflix catalog due to streaming rights issues. The streaming service will notify you 7 days in advance when a content you downloaded is about to disappear from your downloads.
