Picture in Picture Mode lets you watch video from a streaming or video app while using another app entirely.
However, the streaming or video app must support Picture in Picture Mode for users to watch videos within the app using the new feature. YouTube is an app that, although recently updated for iPad, does not yet support Picture in Picture Mode.
The good news is that there is a way to watch YouTube videos in Picture Mode while playing games in a completely different app.
Sure, YouTube has had Picture in Picture Mode for a while, but since this is a native feature within the app, you can watch a YouTube video while exploring and browsing other YouTube videos, but it won’t work. exit the application and start another application.
It can certainly be frustrating, but luckily there is a way to experience real View in View Mode on iPad with the YouTube app.

Watching YouTube in Picture Mode in Picture Mode
There’s a nifty workaround you can use to watch your YouTube videos in Picture in Picture mode, and that’s mostly thanks to a simple new web app that you can access in Safari.
called YouTube PIP and basically it does all the messy work to get real Picture in Picture Mode for YouTube videos.
All you have to do is open a video in the YouTube app. From there, tap the Share button (a curved arrow pointing right) and then select .
Next, go to Safari and visit the YouTube PIP webpage linked above in your Safari browser. Paste the link you just copied into the text box, and then save the .
The video will appear in the middle of the screen and you can start playing it. At this point, a Picture-in-Picture icon will appear, which you can tap on to switch the video to Picture-in-Picture mode. From there, you can navigate to any app you want and fully use it while playing the YouTube video in the corner with audio complete.
The developer of the web app that provides this explains that when you paste a YouTube link, the web app embeds the video using HTML5. The nice thing about HTML5 video in iOS 9 is that Picture-in-Picture Mode is automatically available, so you can enable the feature for that embedded video without too much hassle.
YouTube recently updated its iPad app with a new design, but has yet to add the Picture in Picture Mode feature within the app, as it will likely affect the video site’s ad model, but who knows. Hopefully Google will implement the feature soon as it will be a big one for iPad users.
Of course, Picture in Picture Mode hasn’t spread to many more popular video apps like Netflix, though, and there are only a few streaming apps that support Picture in Picture Mode. However, that will change over the next few months as developers update their apps and add more iOS 9 features.
But at this point, users will have to use this workaround to watch YouTube videos in Picture-in-Picture Mode on iPad.
