How to Watch Monday Night Football on iPhone and iPad

One of the events I look forward to the most in the autumn season is Monday Night Football. I think there are a few others who also enjoy this Monday night ritual. Most of the time, though, I don’t have a bar to go to or a TV to watch the game on. Fortunately, with inventions like the iPad and iPhone, a television isn’t necessary these days. Here I am going to show you the easiest way to watch Monday Night Football in any of these.

iPhone has several options to display Monday Night Football in case a television or public forum isn’t on the cards. iPad owners unfortunately only have one. The first option is free provided you or a family member or friend subscribes to a particular cable company, and the other iPhone-only option is a paid subscription using an app available to Verizon customers.

Let’s start with the “Free” option.

How to Watch Monday Night Football on iPhone or iPad for Free

First, you’ll want to unplug your iPhone or iPad and run the App Store. Search for an app called “Watch ESPN”. You can do also download directly from Apple’s website.

Next, you will want to download the app. Don’t worry, it’s free to download.

Run Watch ESPN by tapping on it. You should be taken to a menu with options to follow. It’s not very fast. While some are free to watch, other premium content such as Monday Night Football are not. In fact, you’ll need one of the five supported cable providers to watch the action. The list includes Bright House Networks, Comcast XFINITY, Midcontinent Communicatons, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS TV.

To select your cable provider, tap the wheel towards the top of the screen.

There, you will select your appropriate provider. If you don’t have an account of your own, you can also enter information for a family member or willing friend. Since I don’t use any of these service providers, I used my family’s account. Currently this is not welcome and is perfect for a college kid who wants to watch a game in his dorm room.

Just click Upcoming to find the game. Once the game goes live, it will be found in the Live Now tab on the main screen.

How to Watch Monday Night Football on iPhone for $5 a Month

If you don’t like Watch ESPN or don’t subscribe to one of these cable providers, there’s another way to watch Monday Night Football on your iPhone, provided you shell out some cash and subscribe to Verizon.

Available on the App Store, the NFL Mobile 12 app is a nifty little app that lets you watch live NFL games on iPhone. Combined with the 4G LTE speeds of the iPhone 5, it makes the perfect companion on the way home.

It’ll cost you $5 a month, but it also lets you watch games on Sundays and gives you access to NFL RedZone, where you can watch all the events on Sundays.

For tonight only, Verizon customers can watch Monday Night Football for free but will require a subscription after tonight.

The app unfortunately doesn’t work with the iPad at all, so iPad owners are stuck with Watch ESPN.
