If you want to completely change the way iOS looks, WinterBoard is a jailbreak app that makes it possible. Here’s how to use WinterBoard on your iPhone or iPad.
iOS already looks good as it is, but sometimes we all like to get creative at some point and mix things up a bit, which is where WinterBoard comes in.
WinterBoard is a free jailbreak app that you can download from Cydia and gives you the power to change the “theme” of iOS. This means you can change things like font, icons, colors, wallpaper, and pretty much any other UI element you can think of.
WinterBoard is useful because it basically includes all sorts of different tweaks rolled into one tweak, as you can get one tweak to change fonts and another to change a different UI element. Instead, WinterBoard can do it all and then some.
If you’re interested in customizing the look and design of your iPhone or iPad, here’s how to use WinterBoard.
How Does WinterBoard Work?
You might think that once you download WinterBoard, you’ll have instant access to all sorts of different themes that you can try right away, but that’s not how it actually works.
Instead, it works by downloading the WinterBoard app and then returning to Cydia to download individual themes that you can open in WinterBoard and apply to your iPhone or iPad.
Install WinterBoard
To get started, you will want to download WinterBoard from Cydia, you can do this by going to the bottom tab and typing “WinterBoard” in the top search box.
It should appear on the list. Tap on it and then tap in the top right corner to install WinterBoard.
You’ll need to restart your iPhone or iPad after it’s finished installing, but once it reboots you can switch back to iOS and WinterBoard will be installed and ready to use for some themes.
Download Theme
The next step is to download a theme with WinterBoard installed.
To do this, go back to Cydia and you can tap Cydia’s home page or tap the tab and then select to view featured themes. From there, scroll down and select . The second option lets you list all available themes in alphabetical order.
There are loads of themes available, so it’s usually a good idea to first research some good themes you like and then search for them on Cydia. Earlier this year we featured some of our favourites.
To search for a specific theme by name, tap the bottom tab in Cydia and then type the name of the theme in the top search box. Note that most themes usually cost a dollar or two, so you can’t really go with a trial and error mindset here.
Install Theme
Now that you have downloaded your theme, you can now install it via WinterBoard.
To do this, go into it and scroll down to find it. Open it and then tap on it at the top.
You should see your newly downloaded theme in the list. To enable it, simply tap on it (a checkmark will appear next to it). Go ahead and tap and activate the other components of the theme if available.
After that, return to the previous page and then tap on it in the upper left corner. Your iPhone will stream again and after doing that you can access your device where the new theme will now be applied.
To undo a theme and go back to stock, enter and tap the theme to deselect it and deactivate it. You will need to restart your device to apply the changes.
