The good thing about the Search Nearby button is that it gives you an estimate of how close or far the device is. A full indicator means you’re near the tag, and a tap on the Ring button will do the trick. If you notice that the device has a weaker signal, you will need to move around to see where it is.

Additional features

Another useful feature of this tag is that you can use it to locate your phone. So if you put your phone in the wrong place, all you have to do is press the button on the sticker twice. This will make your phone ring if it’s nearby. If not, it will work similarly and use other Galaxy phones to find it. Note that these phones will also need SmartThings installed.

Galaxy SmartTag Limitations

Samsung SmartTag only works on Samsung Galaxy phones for now. You will need other Galaxy smartphones for this technology to work seamlessly across locations.

So, if your spouse or any member of your household has an iPhone or other Android phone, they can’t take advantage of those phones to help you find your lost items. If you must know, your phone can use other trackers (like Tile Mate) with other Androids.

Be smart

The BLE-equipped SmartTag isn’t the only tag out there. The company has another tag with ultra-wideband support that gives you a more precise location and doesn’t just depend on Bluetooth. However, they will be functional on Galaxy phones with UWB, such as the Galaxy S21.

So where do you plan to use the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag? We vote for wallets and car keys. What about you?
