If you want to get more out of Siri, the new personal assistant app for iPhone 4S, you’ll want to use location-based reminders.
Location-based reminders are part of the new iOS 5 Reminder App. These reminders allow you to receive a prompt based on your location, opening up a range of possibilities.
You can ask Siri to create a Reminder based on a number of different locations, but if you like it, it will take some setup on your part.
Note that you can reduce your battery life if you use location-based reminders. If you use them, be sure to read the tips on.
How to Use Create Location Reminder with Siri
Press and hold your Home Button for two seconds.
Tell Siri, “Remind me to call Phil when I go to work.”
Siri will show you your reminder and let you confirm or cancel it.
When you arrive at the location, Siri will remind you to do whatever you want.
This works for a few locations, but Siri will need help adding them.
How to Teach Siri New Locations
Siri will allow you to add new locations to your contact record.
You can teach Siri several locations while creating a reminder. Here are a few locations Siri can add during a conversation;
You can use Siri to create more reminders, but you’ll have to do some background work to set this up. Trying to get Siri to add other locations during a conversation will confuse Siri and you’ll be frustrated too.
How to Add More Locations for Reminders
If you want to add a business, junction, or address to use as a reminder, you can create a new contact or add the address to an existing contact. If you have a relationship with Siri, you can also use the nickname you created.
For example. When I go to a friend’s house, I can set a reminder to do something by saying their name. If I want to set a reminder when I go to Mom, I can say, “Remind me to wash the dishes when I go to Mom’s house.” and Siri can link the relationship and address to my reminder.
This also works with businesses. If I say “Remind me to talk to Tim Cook about the iPhone 5 when I go to Apple Inc”, Siri will generate the reminder.
If you want to create a reminder when you go to a specific address, mall or favorite store, simply create a contact and add the address.
If you add a business such as a local mall, you can create a relationship to use Reminders there or just call it mall.
After you add the Mall, you can shorten things by creating a relationship. Remind me to buy a gift at Findlay Village Mall, it’s just the mall.
