With the new PS5 coming out, most people are probably selling their old PS4 consoles. However, let’s say you have a PlayStation 5 in your living room and your PS4 is in your bedroom, you can play PS5 games on your PS4 as well. In fact, this works even if your PS5 is connected to a different WiFi network in a remote location. So, if you are interested in using your PS4 console as a PS5 emulator, here is how to use PS5 Remote Play on PS4.
How to Use Remote Play to Play PS5 Games on PS4
Remote Play on PlayStation works really well in my experience. However, before diving into Destruction All Stars on your PlayStation 4, you’ll only have to jump through a few hoops. In this post, we will discuss step-by-step what you need to do to enable remote play on your PS5 and then connect your PS4 to it.
Enable Remote Play on PS5
The first thing we need to do is enable remote play on the PS5 itself. Here’s how to do it.
- On PS5 go to Settings -> System.
- Here, select ‘Remote Play’ and then ‘Enable Remote Play’.
Remotely Use PS5 in Rest Mode
I also recommend enabling this setting when setting things up on your PS5. With this, you can keep your PS5 in rest mode and still play remotely using the PS4. Here’s how to do it.
- On PS5 go to Settings -> System
- Go to ‘Power Saver’ and select ‘Features Available in Rest Mode’
- Turn on the switch next to ‘Enable PS5 from Network’.
Use PS4 to Play PS5 Games Remotely
Follow these steps on your PlayStation 4. Note that you must sign in with the same PS5/PSN account on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
- Go to the ‘PS5 Remote Play’ app.
- Select ‘Find Your PS5’.
- After a few seconds (or maybe a minute) you will see your PS5 appear. Just connect to it by pressing the ‘X’ key.
- You will enter the home screen of your PS5 and you can start using PlayStation 5 on your PS4.
Disconnect Remote Play
Once you’ve finished playing the game on PS5, you can leave the remote session pretty easily as well.
- Press the PS button on your controller.
- home, control center, etc. You will see a menu specific to remote playback with go to options.
- If you want to end your remote playback session, select ‘Disconnect’ here.
Disable Remote Play on PS5
Remote gaming is really cool and I find it useful when I’m at home but I want to play Destruction All Stars on PS5 while at work, if you don’t want to use this feature any more, here is how-to disable remote access.
- On PS5 go to Settings -> System.
- Here, select ‘Remote Play’ and then turn off the ‘Enable Remote Play’ setting.
Play PS5 Games on PS4 with Remote Play
Even though I tested this with my PS4 console sitting at home and the PS5 26km away at work, it still worked really well for me. I played random Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War matches before downloading Destruction All Stars with Remote Play and even on my PS4.
