This guide will show you how to use Memoji on iPhone X to make your own custom Animoji that you can use in Messages and FaceTime.
Think of it as a Bitmoji Animoji, but it’s not that easy to get a perfect copy like with other services.
A plus of Memoji is that you can create several of them so you have a funny, formal and everyday one for every occasion.
Memoji iOS 12 feature only works on iPhone X, iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr.
How to Make Memoji?
You will need to start by making a Memoji before using it. This happens in the Messages app on iPhone. Here’s what you need to do.
- Open Messages.
- Tap the Apps icon.
- Tap the Animoji icon (monkey).
- To create a new Memoji, swipe all the way left and tap the + sign.
From here you can customize the overall look of your Memoji. There are many options to choose from and you can make many different versions, so go crazy.
- Choose skin color and any Freckle.
- Tap on Hairstyle to move on to the next option.
- Proceed as you choose the rest of your options.
- When you’re done, you’ll be back in Messages and you can start using it.
If you like the overall look and want to create a variation, you can tap on the three dots in the lower left. This allows you to edit, duplicate or delete Memoji.
How to Use Memoji
After you create your Memoji, you can start using it in FaceTime and Messages.
In Messages, you can use Memoji the same way you use Animoji.
- Open Messages.
- Tap the Apps icon.
- Tap the Animoji icon (monkey).
- Choose your Memoji
- Tap the recording to start a 30 second timer.
- or Tap the Memoji to take a photo of it.
You can also use Memoji on FaceTime. This allows you to replace your face with the Animoji version. You can now also use Animoji in FaceTime.
- Start a FaceTime Video call with someone.
- Tap the Effects icon on the left.
- Choose your Memoji.
- You will see a preview of your Memoji.
- Tap the effects button again to return to FaceTime.
You can have a two-way Memoji conversation, but remember that the other caller will see you without the Memoji until you activate it.
