In 2016, Google launched the Google Prompt feature, which made using two-factor authentication very easy, but still kept SMS and Call as default options. But today, Google has made the Google Prompt feature the default two-factor authentication option. Google makes it very easy to use two-factor authentication. That’s really good because now you get the security of two-factor authentication without the hassle that comes with it. But before we can use this feature, we’ll have to set it up first, so let’s see how we do it, shall we?

Setting up a Google Prompt for Two-Factor Authentication
1. First start a browser on your desktop/laptop and then sign in to your google account. Click the link below to go to you now Account settings.
2. Now, Under “Login and security” click on the link, “Sign in to Google”.

3. Here, Under “Password and login method” you will find “2-Step verification” adjustment. First, click on it and then click on the “Get Started” button on the next page.

4. After clicking the Get Started button, you will be prompted to log in again for security reasons. When you log in, you will see your mobile device (Android/iOS) on the screen. Click the “TRY NOW” button. Now, Google will send a prompt to your device, just unlock the device and tap “Yes”.
5. The last step, add a backup two-factor authentication method In case the Google Prompt method fails. If you already have a number linked to your Google account, you can choose SMS or Call. If not, you will need to link your phone number or you can choose other methods provided by Google.

6. The final step is to enable two-factor authentication. Just Click the “ON” button.

Now let’s come to how to log in to our Google account.
1. Load Gmail in your browser and click sign in. Now enter your password as you always do. As soon as you enter the password, you will see that Google is asking you to: Verify login attempt on your smartphone using Google Prompt.

2. As we did during testing, unlock your phone and tap “Yes” and you will be redirected to your account. Look how easy it is!
