HTC One M9 is a powerful new Android smartphone loaded with top-of-the-line features, stunning features and lots of options and customizations. It has a new theme engine, tons of settings, a new 20-megapixel camera and more to change the look and feel of the device, but it can all be a bit overwhelming at times. Fortunately, the device has an easy mode for those who want a simpler and more fluid experience.
It runs on the latest Android 5.0 OS made by Google, but is covered by HTC’s own Sense 7 UI. It has a lot to offer, but sometimes it can be a bit too much for some owners. In this case, we will explain how to install and use Easy Mode on HTC One M9 as below.
Turning on Easy Mode only takes a minute or two and a few simple steps in settings on your device, and once done, the phone will be like a regular phone and not a smartphone. You’ll still get all the advanced features you love, but in a simple, easy mode that’s easier to understand for beginners or those who want something simpler.
Easy Mode is a popular feature among Samsung devices, but it was recently introduced by LG, HTC and others. It offers first-time smartphone buyers a way to enjoy a smartphone without being overwhelmed with all the controls, features, options, customizations and more.
Having said all that, let’s get started. Below is a quick and easy guide to walk you through enabling and using Easy Mode on HTC One M9.
Instructions
To get started, pull down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped icon, which is settings, or find the settings app in the app tray. You will go from here to there.
The options and settings you need to choose are highlighted in the image above and that’s it. Once complete, you will instantly see that the entire device switches to a green tile-based interface that is very easy to understand, but still somewhat customizable.
You will notice that the font is much larger, HTC Sense UI Contacts (contacts) turned into large tiles with commonly used apps like phone dialer, camera, gallery and messages to send texts. Then there is a (+) button to add an additional option to your new Easy Mode home screen.
We chose Google Chrome so that all the essentials are on the home screen. Making calls, sending texts, taking photos and surfing the web. You can choose any of the installed apps like Facebook and you are done. It’s that easy. However, we’re not done yet. HTC makes things even easier by having customizable home screens on the left and right as well.
Swiping left is a shortcut to easily add all your favorite contacts to make a one-tap call or send a text message. Hit the add button and select up to 8 contacts for instant access. Something that many users love and cannot get even in full mode on the device. Then swiping right from the home screen is another area (red) which is another place to add more app shortcuts. Things like the alarm clock, your calendar, Facebook and more. This is where you would normally place apps, but still simplified with large tiles and large, easily readable text.
Everything is bigger, easier to understand and right in front of you. This simplifies everything and puts exactly what you need right in front of your face. Perfect for first-time smartphone owners, and more until their parents or grandparents get used to a smartphone. There’s even an “Easy settings” on the right home screen that gives you quick access to important settings like turning on WiFi, Bluetooth for making calls in the car, changing the font size and increasing the volume. Isn’t it easy?
This much. That is all. You are now using the powerful HTC One M9 in easy mode. If you swipe right at the bottom there’s a button for “all apps” you can still do everything you could have done before, it’s easier to understand.
However, you can also do this when you get used to everything or want to go back to the usual smartphone options. Go back to the main settings option, go to personalization > Change home screen launcher > and enable the regular “Sense Home” feature and your device will be like out of the box. Try both and choose what works best for you. Enjoy.
