It hardly surprised anyone when Microsoft announced Cortana on Xbox One at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Elsewhere he had already revealed some pretty ambitious plans for a personal assistant.
Cortana is Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant. Like Siri, Cortana has a personality and will answer questions in a conversational tone. How to Set Up Cortana on Xbox One
Setting up Cortana is pretty simple and easy. After receiving the required software update, Xbox One will automatically ask users if they want to turn on Cortana. Don’t worry if you miss the notification for it, you can also open the personal assistant from the console’s app.
Turn on your Xbox One console and sign in. If you have a Kinect sensor, you can skip the next three steps by simply saying “Xbox, go to Settings”.

How to Use Cortana on Xbox One
Cortana is ready to use as soon as your console has finished rebooting. You may be used to starting any voice command with the word “Xbox”. Instead, you’ll have to use “Hey, Cortana”. For example, “Xbox is on” is now “Hey Cortana, Xbox is on”.
Another major difference with Cortana is the hardware. Anyone wanting to use Xbox One with voice commands has needed a Kinect before. Kinect is not a must-have for Cortana on Xbox One. Instead, you can use any suitable chat headset connected to your controller to communicate with your personal assistant. It’s a good idea to continue using Kinect for the best experience. Your headset cannot receive your voice commands from across a room. If you are using the Kinect, you may be prompted to calibrate it.
Cortana in Xbox One Commands
The big change in Cortana is contextual commands. There was only one way to turn the Xbox One on and off with the old commands. Cortana can process more phrases for context. Media playback controls and volume controls remain the same. “Stop listening” still allows the personal assistant to stop waiting for a command. Another interesting change is Microsoft’s decision to focus on bringing information from other versions of Cortana to the Xbox One. If you don’t like Cortana on Xbox One, you can turn off the assistant and restore the classic Xbox voice commands that came originally installed on the console.
