Samsung Galaxy S4 offers a tool called Blocking Mode which helps users to stop annoying intrusions from phone during meetings, sleep or needed rest or focus. We will show users how to activate Blocking Mode on the Samsung Galaxy S4 to prevent the phone from making a sound or interrupting the user. This is one of the 25 Hidden Features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 that we shared earlier.
So why would a user want to use Blocking Mode? Phones can make a lot of noise keeping users awake at night. Also, meeting is not the place for ringtones and alarms. If someone wants to prevent the phone from going to rest, a meeting or just the required focus time, set the Blocking Mode and the Samsung Galaxy S4 will leave the user alone. After turning off the Blocking mode, the person can return later and check phone calls, voicemails, email or texts.
To start the Blocking Mode, open it either from the menu button at the bottom left of the phone or from the notifications area we found by swiping down from the top of the screen. There is also a settings app icon in the app drawer.
Tap the tab. Look for it near the bottom of the screen. Tap the menu item to configure or the OFF/ON switch to turn it on after it’s already configured.
After tapping the menu item, a new screen opens. To interact with the configuration items, turn on Blocking mode at the top of the screen by tapping the ON/OFF switch. Select all or four items on the Blocking mode configuration screen by tapping the checkbox on the right. These:
The user can select one, all or any combination of these four items. For example, select the first three to remain silent but keep the LED flash on by unchecking it. This way the user gets a visual cue, but not an audible cue or vibration.
The next screen allows the user to set the time when Blocking Mode starts and stops. Choose to always turn it on and keep it on until manually turned off. Or uncheck this item and set a start and end time.
After the start and end time are set, the phone will automatically start and stop the Blocking mode at the set times.
A third option allows users to choose which contacts ring the phone, even in Blocking mode. For example, if someone needs to answer an important call from their boss, they can set the Barring mode but make an exception for that person.
Tap and choose one of the four options.
Set Favorites by going to Contacts and opening a Contact. Tap the star in the upper right corner to add it to the favorites list.
