How to Use Bedtime Feature in iOS 10

Here is a guide on how to use the new bedtime feature in iOS 10.

Most of us iPhone owners use the built-in Clock app for multiple purposes, including our daily alarm clock, a stopwatch for fitness, and even a timer for cooking in the oven. With iOS 10, Apple introduced a new feature for the Clock called Bedtime.

Bedtime is designed to give you a better structure for the sleep schedule you want. It can help you figure out what to adjust about your sleep habits based on the data you provide.

Here are the steps to ensure you get a good night’s sleep using Bedtime.

Watch the video above to learn how to set the Bedtime feature for everyday use.

Setting the Sleep Time

When you open the Clock app and go to the Bedtime tab for the first time, you will see a yellow button to Get started. Tapping this will ask you to enter the time you want to wake up.

After you fill in the desired wake-up time, choose which days of the week your alarm will sound at the time you set. It will then ask you how many hours you want to sleep a night.

Bedtime will have the feature of reminding you that it is time to go to bed on the days you set for your alarm to sound. You will have various intervals for your bedtime reminder and you can save it later and then choose your alarm sound.

Once these settings are saved, Bedtime is ready to roll!

Managing Bedtime Settings

Once you set these general “rules” for Bedtime, you may need to adjust them later, for example if you have an unscheduled sick day or vacation at work. You will be able to access all these options from the Bedtime tab.

You can tap on Options in the top left corner and change the days of the week, reminder time and wake up sound and volume. You’ll also notice when Bedtime is running, there’s a green slider at the top of the pane. To turn it off, it stops the Bedtime for the current day, but resumes the schedule the next day.

You can also change your settings by swiping the Moon icon on the large Clock to change the bedtime and the Alarm icon for when you want to wake up.

Bedtime is a very simple but customizable assistant to help you get a better night’s sleep. Apple has yet to add connected support for the Apple Watch, but we expect it to be available in the future to better incorporate sleep analytics.
