The first developer beta of watchOS 7 is here and we’re testing it. The new update includes many new features such as tracking your sleep and even setting a custom MAC address for your Apple Watch. However, there’s also a new addon that’s been flying under my radar for a while before I realize it.
You’ll find a new Control Center toggle in watchOS 7, and if you’re wondering what it is, it’s the Announce Messages toggle with Siri. Yes, it’s finally available on the Apple Watch too.
Here’s how to use this feature.
How to Use Announcement Messages with Siri in watchOS 7
Having Siri read your messages aloud is a really useful usability improvement. This feature has been available on iOS for a while and many of you might even be using it on your iPhone. I know. With watchOS 7, the toggle becomes active every time you connect your AirPods to your Apple Watch or iPhone.
This feature is enabled by default, or at least enabled by default on my watch. So if you want to use it, you basically just plug in your AirPods and that’s it.
However, if you don’t want to use the feature, Temporarily disable it by opening Control Center and toggling the toggle switch. Unfortunately, my Apple Watch Series 5 wouldn’t let me turn it off, I’m assuming it’s a watchOS 7 bug, but it might work for you. It will run on the stable version of watchOS 7 even though it’s not currently running, so it’s definitely a useful feature to have. You can always remove the toggle from Control Center if you don’t use it at all.
While I find this helpful as it is, people with cellular Apple Watches may appreciate it even more. With this feature, you can spend the day without carrying your iPhone with you, and Siri will read your messages as they arrive. It will also come in handy when you’re running and don’t want to read the message. from your wrist. So, what do you think about this new watchOS 7 feature? Let us know in the comments.
