I share my Netflix account with my father and brothers and for the longest time I wanted my Netflix profile locked. Sometimes I love movies like The Kissing Booth (NSFW) and don’t want them to judge me for my movie choices. Yes, it’s 2020 and judging people for their movie choices is real. So, when presented with the option to lock my Netflix profile with a PIN, I immediately jumped on the bandwagon.
Yes, Netflix rolled out this option to all Netflix account holders in early April and now users can lock their profiles. This feature will also be useful for some users who are paranoid about using someone else’s profile.
Besides locking the profile with a PIN, Netflix has also introduced a few new features. So let’s go, shall we?
How to Use a PIN to Lock Your Netflix Profile
Stage 1: To lock your profile, go to your Netflix Profile’s Account Settings. To do this, click on the small avatar in the upper right corner and select Account.
Here you will see a new Profile and Parental Controls section. Click the small arrow next to your profile name to expand the settings.
step 2: Next, click Change. As with passwords, you will need to add the existing account password here.
Stage 3: Once complete, you will see the option to add the new profile pin. Now add a four-digit number and hit the Save button.
The only thing you need to remember the number.
From now on, your Netflix profile will be locked with a four-digit key.
After that, go to the Netflix homepage while signing in. Click the profile icon in the upper right corner and select Exit Profile from the drop-down menu. Then try logging in again. You will encounter profiles that appear as locked under your profile.
If for some reason you don’t see the lock icon on the profile landing page, a simple restart/refresh of the app should work.
Netflix account holders will also see an additional checkbox for PIN requirement for new profiles.
So, if one of your friends with whom you share your Netflix account decides to add another friend, this feature will now fix the problem in the bud. Yes, you can thank me later.
Do you know: You can check your account activities via the ‘Recent device streaming activity’ link (inside Settings). It will show you all the device names along with the estimated location of the devices.
Recover Netflix Profile PIN
Forgot your Netflix profile PIN? What will happen now? Don’t worry, resetting the password is a simple process as long as you remember the master password.
To do this, click the Forgot PIN link at the bottom. If you are using a browser such as Chrome and Firefox to watch Netflix, you will be redirected to the Accounts page.
If you’re watching Netflix on TV, you’ll need to log into the Accounts page via your PC.
Bonus: Additional Netflix Settings
Viewing Restrictions
Apart from the above, you can also set a PIN for the profiles you want to restrict viewing. For example, if you want to limit maturity ratings to only 13+ for a profile, you can do so now.
For this, go to the View Restriction tab and click Change. Again, you will need to enter the password because you know why.
Once inside, drag the slider left to the desired location and save the settings.
You can also enter the names of all the movies that you do not want to be displayed on your profile.
Simply add the name under Title Restrictions and save the settings.
Auto Play Settings
Netflix and Autoplay are synonymous with each other. As soon as you log in, one of the titles in the banner will start playing. And well, there is no end to it. Even if you wait to read the synopsis of a new movie, the movie will start playing. It’s annoying, isn’t it?
Now there seems to be a way out. You can stop Auto Play using the Play settings. The only catch is that if you disable it, it will be for all devices under that profile.
To do this go to Playback Settings and uncheck the Autoplay controls boxes.
You can also disable the Autoplay Next Episode option. But if you ask me, I find it quite useful.
Subtitle Display
Looking for slightly larger captions on your screen? Besides the size, you can change the font and add a background to the subtitle text.
To do this, go to the Subtitle Display tab and change it to your liking.
The good thing is, if you’re not happy with the changes, clicking the Reset to Default button will reset them to their previous state.
Lock
I shouldn’t be judged for the movies and TV Shows I choose, and neither should you. Use the above method and lock your profile.
