iOS 9 was recently released and one minor feature that many users are clamoring for is the new iOS 9 keyboard and how it now displays lowercase letters. Here’s how to get all caps back in iOS 9.
Prior to iOS 9, all letters were capitalized whether you held down the Shift key or not while typing on the keyboard. This was purely a design choice made by Apple, but many users quickly realized that it’s hard to tell if Caps Lock is enabled, especially with the new Shift key that Apple introduced in iOS 8. in which case he was using the keyboard.
Apple changed this in iOS 9 and the keyboard now shows lowercase when typing lowercase and uppercase when typing uppercase.
This makes a lot of sense and previously users were so pissed off with capital letters that a jailbreak tweak was created that finally enabled this feature on iOS 8 and older.
However, not everyone likes to see lowercase letters on the iOS keyboard and they prefer to use uppercase letters. Fortunately, you can change this setting in iOS 9 and get all caps back in the latest version of iOS on your iPhone or iPad.
Personally, I like to see the entire keyboard change to lowercase when typing, but if you’re more about consistency and don’t like seeing changes as you type, here’s how to turn this feature off and undo it all. caps.
First off, your first guess is probably to go to Settings and then Keyboard settings in the General section, but that’s not where the setting actually is.
Instead, you need to go to. From there, you’ll see a setting named and a toggle switch next to it. Simply flip this toggle switch until it turns from green to gray and you’re good to go. From now on, the keys on the keyboard will be displayed in capital letters the entire time.
Again, this was a jailbreak tweak that Apple made a default feature in iOS, and the company has a habit of doing this with every new major release of iOS. In fact, there are several jailbreak tweaks that Apple has built into iOS 9, including the ability to move the cursor around by swiping the keyboard.
There’s also the new Picture-in-Picture Mode in iOS 9 that lets you watch videos while they’re all working in another app together. This came from a jailbreak tweak called VideoPane and has been around for several years.
Also in iOS 9, there’s a new Low Power Mode, the ability to search settings to quickly and easily find the setting you’re looking for, Split View multitasking on iPad, and even put app shortcuts in Notification Center. All these features were jailbreak tweaks that iOS 8 users have been enjoying for a while.
This is perhaps one of the biggest benefits of jailbreak – having the ability to add much more functionality to your iPhone and iPad that stock iOS is trying to keep up with. Of course, jailbreaking isn’t for everyone, as there are risks of encountering more bugs and general stability issues, but it’s well worth it if you’re comfortable going through the jailbreak process.
However, like iOS 8.4.1, iOS 9 is currently unbreakable. Only iOS 8.4.0 and older can be jailbroken and unfortunately you cannot upgrade to a jailbroken version.
Hopefully an iOS 9 jailbreak is released soon, but it may not be for a while.
