Being able to share your internet connection with your tablet or laptop is great. After all, most businesses require users to stay connected, in touch with the office wherever they are. Here’s how to use the personal hotspot on the Lumia 520 Windows Phone and share that connection with a tablet or laptop wherever you are.
Whether a personal hotspot can be used on your Lumia 520 depends entirely on your wireless plan. This feature will not work unless you have a wireless plan that supports personal hotspots. Instead, it will first ask you to sign up for a plan that supports personal hotspot. Lumia 521, T-Mobile’s version of the Lumia 520, supports wireless tethering up to 1GB per individual plan. Availability of hotspot functionality for AT&T users depends on their specific plan. Also, turning on the personal hotspot can seriously drain the battery of your Lumia 520.
Here’s how to open a personal hotspot on Lumia:
Turn on and unlock your Lumia 520.
Put your finger anywhere on your Start Screen and view a complete list of every app you have installed.
Scroll down until you see the app and tap on it.
Once in the settings app, stay in the settings menu. Look for the option and tap on it. It’s the fourth option from the top of your screen.
Tap the switch to turn on the personal hotspot.
Now go to your laptop or tablet and find the wireless network with this broadcast name. Join the network and enter the password. In our example, we’re sharing the link with a device running Windows 8.1.
You have successfully opened a personal hotspot on your Lumia 520. Remember, it’s important to turn off the personal hotspot when you’re finished using it. Failure to do so may result in low battery power and no data remaining on your monthly wireless plan. Also, never share your personal hotspot password with others. If you do, be sure to change it later.
