This guide explains how to enable and turn on the LED notification light on the new Google Pixel and Pixel XL. It’s something that almost all Android users enjoy, and the Pixel does indeed have one, it’s turned off by default. Those missing a flashing light for notifications will want to read the easy instructions.
Google’s impressive new Pixel phones are premium high-end devices with a lot to love. However, many users were not thrilled to see that the LED was missing. Something most used for an indicator or notifications while charging.
Instead of having a flashing LED on the front like most Galaxy S7 or other Android smartphones, Google uses a feature called Ambient Display. This turns the screen on and vibrates in a low power black and white state. This is what alerts us to incoming messages or missed calls.
Whether you need a visible flashing light or just want one, this guide will show you how to turn it on. These steps will not turn on the LED while charging, showing an orange light when charging is complete, or a white/green light at the end. Activates the LED for notification purposes only. There are third-party apps for that, which we’ll explain below.
We’re not sure why Google chose to pass on this feature considering that almost every Android smartphone uses one, but they did. Ambient Display works great on its own, but it also consumes valuable battery life.
It’s easiest to randomly look at your phone and see a small LED pulse. It’s also less distracting for others or when lying in bed at night. That said, here’s how to enable it on your Pixel.
Instructions
Fortunately Android is highly customizable and Google has made sure to add an option in the settings to turn it on quickly. Giving users a second option for notifications instead of just using Ambient Display.
- Pull down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped icon
- Scroll and select
- Tap the gear-shaped icon in the top right
- open option
Once you’ve done that, just tap home and go back to using the Pixel as usual. The next time you receive a notification via text message, missed call, emails and more, you will see a small flashing LED light in the left corner of the top speaker grille.
Google’s Pixel notification light isn’t very bright compared to its rivals, and it doesn’t blink very often. Making it less reliable than other devices for alerts or companies have Ambient Display notification system. Still, it’s there and can be unlocked for those who prefer it.
Alternatively, we can customize how and when it opens. there is more than one Apps like LightFlow on the Google Play Store, which offers full control. Options to choose which colors light up for each specific app or notification type, charging notifications, and more. Some apps that allow this kind of customization require root, but LightFlow does not.
This app works great on Google Pixel and is probably the best way for owners. While you’re here, take a look at some of the best Google Pixel examples below.
