PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is a huge upgrade over its predecessor. It brings new haptics, a more feature-rich Create button, and more. With all these new vibration motors and adaptive triggers, you can worry about your controller running out of battery faster than the DualShock 4. Personally, I always turn off the controller when leaving my PS5 to download games or updates. If you also want to extend the battery life of the DualSense controller, here is how to turn off the PS5 DualSense controller.
Turn off DualSense Controller
There are several ways to turn off your PS5 DualSense controller. In this article, we will discuss all these methods, so you can use the method that suits your needs at any given moment.
As always, you can use the table of contents below to jump to any section in this article.
Automatically Turn Off Controller
By default, your PlayStation controller has a built-in setting that will automatically turn it off after a period of inactivity. As you can imagine, this is to ensure that the controller does not unnecessarily waste its battery when not in use for navigating the PS5 UI or playing games.
You can set the amount of time the remote stays on when not in use by following the steps below:
- Go to Settings -> System
- Scroll down to “Power Saver” and select “Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off”.
- For the auto-off feature, you can now choose between 10 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes.
Manually Turn Off PS5 Controller
While the auto-shutdown feature works pretty well, there are times when you want to instantly turn off your PS5 DualSense controller. There are two things you can do for this.
Turn off DualSense via Control Center
The first and easier method is to use the control center on the PS5 to turn off your controller. Here’s how:
- Press the PS button on the controller to bring up the control center.
- Here, navigate to the icon that looks like a controller and press ‘X’.
- Select ‘Wireless Controller’ and press ‘X’
- Now select ‘Turn off’ and press ‘X’ to turn off the controller.
Turn off DualSense in Settings
You can also go to settings and turn off DualSense controller.
- Go to Settings -> Accessories.
- Under General, select ‘Turn Off Accessories’.
- Select ‘Wireless Controller’ and it will immediately turn off your controller.
Turn Off Your PS5 Controller To Save Battery
While the DualSense controller has pretty decent battery life, Sony only provides one controller in the box so it’s important to remove as much of its battery as possible before charging it again. Therefore, it is a good idea to turn off the DualSense controller so that it can conserve the battery.
