How to Turn Off Live Photos

While this is part of iOS 9 on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, you cannot use Live Photos on older iPhone models.

Here’s how to turn off Live Photos on iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. You don’t need to go into settings, so you can toggle this on or off in the camera app without the same hassle as turning 4K video on or off on newer iPhones.

If Live Photos is turned on while taking a photo, the yellow sun-like symbol in the center of your screen will turn bright yellow.

Tap the icon to turn off Live Photos and you will see a message that says Live Off and the icon will turn white.

To turn Live Photos back on, simply tap the icon again. The screen will show Live and then the icon will appear in yellow.

If you have trouble taking low-light photos, you may see better results with Live Photos turned off.

Another reason you might want to turn this feature off is if you often move around after taking the photo. You may accidentally put yourself in the photo.

Another potential issue is that Live Photos record audio, so you could accidentally record yourself saying something you don’t want anyone else to hear.
